New Hope HS Football - Keep you eye on Josh Carwile (5-11, 168, 4.5) this coming season. Last year, Josh was an All-Division defensive back and also played wide receiver. As a DB, he had 58 total tackles, 2 pass deflections and 2 interceptions.
My source told me he has heard that Josh will be attending several camps this coming summer, including the Ole Miss, Alabama, MSU, and the Manning Passing Academy camps.

During the final moments of the game, Mercy Cross drove from their own 30 to the Forrest County 4-yard line only to see the clock run out on them. Columbus (MS) HS Football - Columbus HS was probably the surprise team in Mississippi high school football last season. According to my sources, head football coach Roy McCrory and his staff have done an outstanding job building a winner at Columbus. I have seen several of their games over the past few years and it is like night and day between what they did last season and the first game I saw them play under coach McCrory.
Several sources of mine passed on names and info about Columbus' potential college prospects. Based on this info, Columbus has an outstanding future, especially during the school years of 2002 and 2003. Because the list of names is so long, I will list the seniors and juniors today and the sophomores Monday. If any of you follow Columbus HS football, please email me what you think about the players that I will be listing over the next few days.
Seniors-to-be:
Juniors-to-be:

Caledonia HS Baseball - Caledonia defeated Houston HS 8-0 in the Class 3A North State championship game Monday night in Houston.
Stanley House was the hitting star for Caledonia, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Junior lefthanded pitcher Joey Pounders was the winning pitcher. He allowed five hits and struck out nine. Dandy Dozen pitcher Scott Ellison took the loss for the Houston Hilltoppers.
Caledonia now takes on West Lauderdale for the Class 3A state championship. The first game will be played at Collinsville this Thursday. The second game will be Saturday at Caledonia.
Ernie also has a junior-to-be teammate that has a chance to be a D-I prospect. His name is John Wallace. John is a 6-1, 215-220-lbs, middle linebacker who can bench-press 285. He is also an excellent student.
In game one, which was played last Thursday, sophomore lefty Brae Wright picked up a 10 to 4 win going 5.1 innings. Brandon High School Sports - From various sources: junior-to-be running back Jerious Norwood (2,200 all-purpose yards last season) is not the only top football prospect that Brandon HS has.
Others include junior-to-be OL/DL Richard Burch, 6-6, 285, 5.35; senior-to-be LB/FB B. J. Thompson, 5-11, 220, 4.75; senior-to-be SS/RB Rico Bennett, 6-1, 191, 4.5; senior-to-be WR/DB Walter Myers 6-1, 180, 4.55; senior-to-be CB/RB Charles Magee, 5-10, 187, 4.7.
Another BHS athlete who has D-I potential is 5-10, 150, Chris Porter. Chris has the state's best triple jump this year (48' 8.5"). He is also a top sprinter and hurdler. Chris signed with Hinds CC in football but would be a fine for a D-I track program that would be willing to give him a chance.
In game 1, Nijel Young took the loss dropping his record to 10-2 on the year. Freshman Sed Eichelberger led the way with a solo home run while Dee Hornesburger drove in two runs.
In game 2, the Tigers came back on the pitching of senior Dee Hornesburger and the hitting of freshman Sed Eichelberger who had 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Freshman Corey Coward and junior Will Baskin hit homers to add to the scoring.
Noxapater improved its record to 17-8 on the year. Game 3 is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at Mize. Everyone come out and support the Tigers in their bid to reach the South State Championship round.
