July 2000 Mississippi High School All-Sports Skuttle-Butt

If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Do you have info you want to share? Here are the different ways you can send it to me.

Gulfport HS Baseball - Here is some info from a source of mine in regard to the future of baseball at Gulfport HS.

"I think that Gulfport high school baseball is on the rise. The 15-year old Babe Ruth team just won the state tournament in Corinth, MS. this past Monday. The team is made up mostly of Gulfport high school players that played on the freshmen team. They are going to Russellville, Ark. next Wednesday to play in the Southwest Regional tournament. They are five wins away from the Babe Ruth World Series. This is only the second team from Gulfport to win a state championship in Babe Ruth 13 years or older. The first time a Gulfport team did this was five years ago. Look for this team to be the host team next summer when Gulfport hosts the 2001, 16-year old Babe Ruth World Series. Gulfport high school is definitely getting a talented group of athletes with this class."

Kossuth HS Football - Josh Meeks, LB/TE, 6-1, 183. Played strong safety as a sophomore on 12-1 team. Recorded 6 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions. Moved to middle linebacker last season on 9 an 3 team. Made approximately 130 tackles. Not very big but instinct and reaction make up for a lot. True position is safety. ACT Qualified.

Oak Hill Academy (West Point) - Oak Hill has a sophomore QB/RB that bears watching. His name is Taylor Robertson. Taylor is 6-0, 170. He also plays baseball.

Amite School Center - Anybody know anything about a Ben Weathers from Amite School Center? I have been told he is an offensive lineman who has D-I potential. My source wasn't sure if he is a sophomore or junior. His older brothers are Max and Brad Weathers. Max signed with Delta State and Brad signed with MSU out of high school. Brad is presently on his Mormon mission trip at the moment.

Warren Central HS Football - Warren Central has a defensive tackle, Thad Henderson (I believe that is his name), who bears watching this coming football season. He has great talent but is not receiving the attention he deserves because he is only 6-0. Thad, who is 6-0, 265, is smart, fast and strong. According to my source, he was selected by the coaches to the All-Warren Central All-Time team.
