Maben HS - Maben HS, which is off to a 4-1 start, has a couple of players who could turn out to be D-I prospects by their senior year. Junior RB/LB Chris Williams, 5-11, 170, 4.5/4.6, has been a starter on the high school team since 8th grade. So far this season he is averaging 6 solo tackles a game, with 13 solos last week, and has rushed for over 800 yards in the five games. The word is he is a good student. The other player is also a junior. RB/ILB Danta Wordlaw, who is 5-11, 185 with 4.5/4.6 speed, is averaging about 5 solo tackles per game and has rushed for over 450 yards this year. Danta, like Chris, is a good student. Keep your eye on these youngsters.

Ruleville Central - Helping Ruleville Central defeat O'Bannon 50-12, Noah Ingram rushed the ball 11 carries for 224 yards and 3 td's in the first half. He sat out the second half to rest some bumps and bruises. This leaves Noah about 1,400 yards shy of the all-time career rushing record for Mississippi.
The young man that will replace Noah next year is sophomore Sam Killingsworth. He played the entire second half and netted 139 yards on 21 carries while scoring 2 touchdowns.
East Webster HS - According to a source, East Webster Wolverines defeated the Edinburg Eagles 41-0 to improve their record to 3-2 on the year. Lance Crowley, a 6-0,198-lb, senior linebacker, led the Wolverines with 10 tackles. Also on the way to the victory, junior wide receiver Chris Avant returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown. Avant also had a 50 yard receiving touchdown. The Wolverines are on a roll right now. East Webster hosts Caledonia this coming Friday Night.

Amory HS - Amory HS has an up and coming sophomore wide receiver by the name of Charles Rainey, Jr. (6-0, 170, 4.8). Charles, according to my source, has 8 catches and 112 yards so far this season. If the last name sounds familiar, that is because he is the 1st cousin of former MSU running back Chris Rainey. Keep an eye on this youngster.

Starkville Academy - Quarterback/defensive back Will Prosser - 6-3, 195, 4.6, excellent student. In basketball, he earned North 4A Academy All Conference and was voted the Best Offensive Player. In baseball, he earned North 4A Academy All Conference as a shortstop. He was voted "Most Athletic" at Starkville Academy in his junior year. Has camped at MSU and Southern Miss. Unofficially visited Ole Miss during the recent Auburn game.
During Starkville Academy's first three games (all victories), Will has accounted for 502 yards on offense (15-32-348 passing and 19-154 rushing) and has also intercepted 1 pass.
9/16/00 - Fred Perkins, of Brookhaven HS, helped lead his team to a 22 to 14 victory over Mendenhall last night. According to my source, as a QB, he ran and ran throughout the game. He is a big, punishing runner who fights for the extra inches.
A name to remember: Jonathan Walker. My source said that the Mendenhall wide receiver made a very nice, over-the-outside shoulder catch. He looked to have nice speed and great hands.

Canton HS - Just got this info last night. According to a source of mine, Canton HS has a couple of possible D-I players in Byron Johnson, a 6-0, 165, 4.47, wide receiver and Myron Johnson, a 5-11, 160, 4.4, defensive back. Myron, who is a three-year starter, also returns punts and kickoffs. Byron also plays second base for the baseball team.
Florence HS - Here's the latest on sophomore running back Cody Jones. Cody, who is 5-10, 170-lbs, with 4.55 speed, has scored 5 TDs and is averaging 130 yards per game in their first three games, according to my source. He is also averaging 37 yards per punt return. Cody is an excellent student who comes from good bloodlines (has a brother, Chris Jones, currently playing wide receiver at Delta State).
Amite School Center - Per a source of mine, senior William Cody of Amite School Center is someone to look at. After playing on the line for his first three years, he was moved to fullback this season and is currently averaging 15 yards per carry. He is also playing defensive end and has 37 tackles and 5 sacks. My source went on to say that he has good speed, has a very good vertical jump and is very strong. Also an excellent student.
If you know anything about any of these four youngsters, please email me at swindoll@genespage.com.
9/11/00 - Here is a first-hand account from one of you of the Ruleville Central - Indianola Gentry game this past Friday night.
Noah Ingram, from Ruleville Central, broke his single game rushing record that he set last year. He ran for 506 yards on 41 carries with 6 touchdowns. He only needs a few more yards to have 1,000 yards on the season and this is only the fourth week of the season. Noah has got the best eyes for the open field that I have ever seen. He seems to see the whole field when he is running.
Michael Spurlock, from Indianola Gentry, passed for 544 yards. This also broke a single game passing record. This kid is the real deal. He can scramble, make people miss him, and launch rockets down the field.
Ruleville Central won the game 74-71. I have never and will probably never see a game like that again in my life.

Greenville St. Joe's - Trey Towles is a 5-10, 150-pound K/CB/WR. He will probably be recruited for his kicking ability by colleges. He is 4-for-5 kicking FGs this year with his longest been 38 yards. He is perfect on extra points. According to a source who has seen him play, he has the leg to kick 50-yard field goals and often has touchbacks on his kickoffs.

Pascagoula HS - According to a source of mine, Shun Carmichael, talented senior QB for Pascagoula High, tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a knee in Friday's 28-7 loss to Niceville (Fla.). He is out for the season. Shun left the game with a 0-0 score after throwing four TDS in the season-opening win over Stone High.
9/02/00 - I attended the the Meridian HS at Columbus HS game last night. In what some folks would consider a major upset -- don't include me among them -- Columbus defeated Meridian 17-14 behind the running of senior running back Galen Hendricks. Meridian, winners over Starkville 28-20 last weekend, kept coming back on Columbus but on an attempted pass to super senior wideout Mario Hill, with a little under two minutes to go Columbus, defensive back Nicholas Edwards intercepted to put the game away for the Falcons.
Columbus Head Coach Roy McCrory's gang-tackling defense, which had two men on Mario Hill throughout the game, kept Meridian's offense under control for most of the game. Hill, who caught 5 passes for 127 yards and 4 TDs, last Friday night against Starkville HS, did catch one deep pass but was held at bay for the rest of the game.
Meridian's Dandy Dozen selection Jeremy Ruffin showed why he is so highly recruited by exhibiting excellent quickness and speed. On one play, Columbus HS running back Galen Hendricks got past the line of scrimmage and had nothing but green grass in front of him but Ruffin ran him down from behind with a touchdown-saving tackle at the six-yard line.
Columbus' outstanding senior linebacker Marcus West went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter and was held out for the remainder of the game. Marcus was on the sideline during the second half. He had no shoulders pads on nor did he have any kind of bandages on. From what I was told, he was held out more as a precaution than anything else.
BTW, I was told that Marcus, as well as his teammates Jonathan Lewis and Galen Hendricks have all been offered by Southern Miss.
Folks, watch out for Columbus HS because this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The word I'm hearing from my Columbus sources is the sophomore class is something special and CHS will be even better next year and the year after.
