October 2000 Mississippi High School All-Sports Skuttle-Butt

If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Do you have info you want to share? Here are the different ways you can send it to me.

Brookhaven HS - Brookhaven has two Perkins playing for them that are great players. You all already know about one of them, senior all-everything athlete Fred Perkins. The other one is his brother, Emanuel Perkins. Emanuel is a 6-3, 185, sophomore free safety who is already drawing attention from colleges.

Saltillo HS - Jeremy Gaston, running back from Saltillo High School, has rushed for over 700 yds on 96 carries and scored 9 td's through the first 9 games of his freshman season. According to my source, this youngster has a promising career. My source went on to say that he is about 5-10, 175, just turned 14 years old, has great forward body lean, also has great vision, and runs with great power. He is the lone back on a team that runs the spread offense.

Cleveland HS - Cleveland HS has several underclassmen who have a chance to play D-I ball according to a source of mine. Here is what my source had to say about them.
  • Aaron Vence, OL/DL, 6-2, 300, junior. Very quick off the ball. Able to defeat most players one on one but faces double and triple teams most of the time.
  • Derek James, RB/LB, 5-9, 180, 4.6, junior. The quickest start from a stance that these eyes have ever seen. Hits the hole at full speed.
  • Keith Russell, TE/DE, 6-3, 180, junior. Extremely high ACT score. Very smart player who will get bigger and stronger. Excellent blocker.
  • Michael Eubanks, TE/DE, 6-0, 168, freshman. First year to play football, very quick, younger brother of senior wide receiver John Eubanks.
  • Ken Cox, RB/DB, 5-9, 160, 4.6, freshman. This kid has it all, quick feet, great acceleration off the ball and after cuts. Already receiving attention from some D-1 schools.
