11/30/00
Coldwater HS - Here is my latest update on 10th grader Jeramie Migale Moore. Jeramie, a 6-2, shooting guard, had another great game as Coldwater HS defeated John F. Kennedy 108 to 94 this past Tuesday night. Not only did he have a great scoring night (25 points), but he also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. According to my source, he ended his performance with 2 fast break dunks. Coldwater HS plays Coahoma AHS at Coahoma CC next Tuesday night.
Clarksdale HS - I received additional info on a sophomore defensive back that I wrote about on my page a few days ago. According to my source, Trumaine McBride (5-10, 160, 4.6), is a very good cover corner who, during the playoff games, intercepted two passes against Louisville and came close to intercepting two against Cleveland HS.
Clarksdale HS plays McComb HS for the championship this Saturday.
Trumaine is on my list of top sophomores in the state of Mississippi.
Noxapater HS - Sophomore linebacker Sed Eichelberger led the Tigers in tackles this past season with over 90.
Sed is not the only underclassman at Noxapater who has potential. Three others to watch are:
Toby Parker - 6-2, 265, junior offensive tackle.
Corey McDonald - 5-10, 185, 4.6, junior running back.
Desmond Graham - 5-8, 170, 4.5, freshman running back.
11/27/00
Caledonia HS - Josh Hopkins is a 5-9, 155-pound freshman from Caledonia HS who was a starter at linebacker and offensive tackle this past season. He also showed promise as a fullback. According to my source, he loves contact.
Clarksdale HS - According to a source of mine, Clarksdale HS has a sophomore that has a chance to be a D-I prospect. My source went on to say that Trumaine McBride, 5-10, 160, 4.6, made several big plays during the Lousiville and Cleveland playoff games. Trumaine was out earlier in the season due to a broken wrist.
If anyone else knows anything about Trumaine, please email me at swindoll@genespage.com.
Kossuth HS - Kossuth has a senior defensive tackle, Brandon Brooks (6-0, 210), who is being looked at by Tennessee Tech. Due to his size, he will play linebacker in college.
Grenada HS - Grenada High School has a few players that had notable seasons, and are receiving interest from colleges:
Quarterback Shelton Richardson, who began the season on the state's Top 40 Recruits List, is being recruited by Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Memphis, along with a few more schools. He began the year very well, but was hampered by an injury late in the season. He is also a member of the Grenada basketball team.
Tight end/wide receiver Grant Horton finished as the leading receiver on the team for the second season in a row. He is leaning to Ole Miss, but is also being recruited by Memphis and Jackson State.
Linebacker Trumaine Sykes had a great season and was the leader on the Grenada defense. He is being recruited by many schools, but may end up in junior college. Trumaine also plays on the Grenada HS basketball team. Trumaine's brother, Terrance Sykes, is an offensive lineman at Louisiana Tech.
Grenada has several underclassmen who had successful seasons:
Junior quarteback/punter Chris Beckman. Also a top baseball player.
Junior wide receiver Preston Hervey. Great speed, plays on the track and baseball teams.
Junior wide receiver Cedric Wiggins. Also has great speed and is a star on the track team.
Sophomore cornerback Corlando McChristion. Showed good talent playing in the secondary this past season.
North Delta School - Sources are telling me that North Delta School has a junior quarterback, Chad McMahan (6-1, 180, 4.5/4.6) who has a great arm, speed and is a very good kid. Also excellent in the classroom per my source.
Another NDS player to watch is sohomore offensive lineman Trey Poole (6-4, 215). Trey, who started every game this past year, was all-conference as a freshman and should be the same this year.
Noxapater HS - According to a source of mine, Noxapater's senior lineman Joey Bates (6-3, 220) is a player that is being overlooked by colleges.
Durant HS - Durant has a couple of seniors who have the talent to play on the next level, according to a source of mine. Detrius Roberson is a 180-pound tailback/defensive back and Baron Roundtree is a 210-pound fullback/linebacker.
Brandon HS - Brandon senior quarterback Dale Purvis threw for over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns this past season. Dale, who is an MSU fan, has received interest from Arkansas, Southern Miss, and LSU. Dale is a very good student.
11/21/00 - The rumor is Gulfport HS junior quarterback Chris Smith will be at the Mississippi State / Ole Miss game this coming Thursday night.
11/18/00
Weir HS - Just thought you would like an update on a sophomore quarterback who has a very good chance to be a D-I prospect. Ben Henson, a 6-3, 215-pound, QB from Weir HS, broke his ankle in the spring and has been regulated to backing up Shamond Hoskins, Dicenzo Miller's younger brother, this season. According to my source, Ben has a great arm and is a very good pocket quarterback. He also has the ability to see the smallest cushion between the receiver and defender. Although not the fastest quarterback, he has enough speed to run the option. Ben is definitely a player to watch during the next two years.
11/17/00
Saltillo HS - Here is an update on a few of Saltillo's top players.
Senior WR Leo Robbins: Team's leading WR, kick returner, punt returner, and scorer. Caught 70 passes for 1,017 yds (despite being double-teamed half the time). Scored 14 TD's (10 rec. 2 KO Ret. 1 Punt Ret. 1 rush). Leo averaged 14.5 yds/recpt., 24.1/KOR, 24.5/PR.
Senior LB Timmy Pierce: Timmy's season ended early when he broke his foot in the 3rd game of the season. A big blow to the Saltillo defense. In his first 2 games, Timmy had 22 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 int, and 1 forced fumble.
Senior Safety Patrick Lucas: Another huge loss for Saltillo. Patrick tore his ACL on the opening kick-off of the season.
Junior QB/LB Luke May: Luke played defense for 1st half of year. He had 36 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 int, 1 forced fumble, 1 blocked punt. Luke started at QB the last 4 games of the season. He completed 75 of 222 pass attempts for 1,097 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Sophomore WR Jamison Shells: #2 in receiving. 29 catches, 509 yds, 4 TD's, 17.6 avg. Also played SS 2nd half of season. Recorded 32 tackles, 2 int's.
Freshman RB Jeremy Gaston: Jeremy had a solid freshman year. Lead Saltillo in rushing with 658 yds. while scoring 9 touchdowns. Tough runner. Hard to bring down. Keep an eye on this one. He could be very special in 3 years.
11/16/00 - Here are a few more names of baseball signees from Mississippi.
Madison Central HS:
Coffeeville HS - Coffeeville has an offensive lineman, Jody Baker, who has a chance to be an outstanding lineman. Jody is 6-0, 270, and has good enough feet to have played linebacker this past season. He benches 250 pounds and squats 430.
Another Coffeeville player that has a chance to be a D-I prospect is wide receiver Stanford Spearman. Stanford, who is 6-2, 170 with 4.6 speed, is being looked at by MSU and Ole Miss. Stanford has attended the MSU summer football camp the past two summers. He also plays basketball.
Ripley HS - Britt Cross is a 6-4, 205, tight end who is four-year letterman for Ripley HS. He has been selected to the Division 1-3A football team two times prior to this season. He is an excellent student who is receiving interest from several D-I and D-2 teams as well as a few Eastern and Ivy League schools. He has earned All-Division Academic honors in both football and baseball. According to my source, he has very soft hands and is the leading receiver in all categories for the 11-1 Tigers. He is a fine blocker, long snapper, and first baseman as well.
Richland HS - Here is a follow-up on freshman linebacker Bryant Jenkins. This info came from a source who had the pleasure to watch Bryant play all season.
Bryant started for Richland "at both linebacker and fullback for a team that went 10-2, losing in the first round of the playoffs to Perry Central 30-29. He is fast and pretty strong but a little skinny, but hey, he's only a freshman. But I will tell you this, HE WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF. On one of the kickoffs against Perry Central, Richland kicked a little pooch kick. When the upback received the kick, Jenkins hit him before he even looked down. The next thing he knew the upback was in an ambulance. Jenkins has unlimited potential as long as he will stick with it and work hard."
11/15/00 - Here is a short list of Mississippi players that signed with various colleges.
11/11/00
Vicksburg HS - Sean McGowan, a kicker/punter for Vicksburg High School's 9th grade team, is 5-7, weighs 180, benches 210 and squats about 250. His average kick goes to the five-yard line. His punts average about 40 yards. He may also get a look at linebacker next year. Sean also plays 9th grade basketball, and high school soccer and baseball. Not bad for a youngster who is only 14 years old.
Richland HS - Bryant Jenkins is a freshman linebacker who is 6-0, 175 with 4.7 forty speed. According to my source, he was a starter at both fullback and linebacker this year. Anybody know anything about this youngster?
11/10/00
Horn Lake HS - Horn Lake has an excellent junior wide receiver, Eric Harris, who very likely will be heavily recruited. Eric, who is 5-11,190 and run a 4.6, has great hands and is an excellent athlete. He is such a great athlete that he also played quarterback for Horn Lake this season. He also starts for Horn Lake's basketball team.
There is also another junior on the Horn Lake team, lineman Jared McGowan (6-5, 275), who has a lot of potential but hasn't come close to reaching it at the moment. If he puts forth the effort and learns to believe in himself, he could be a D-I prospect next season.
Florence HS -
Saltillo HS - From a source: Leo Robbins set school records for most career receptions with 144, most receptions in a single season with 70 this year, and most receiving yards in a single season with 1,017, also set this year. He makes the difficult catches look routine, and he is a little faster than people think. Leo finished his senior year with 70 receptions, 1,017 yds receiving and 10 touchdowns.
Teammate Jamison Shells, 5-11, 180, 4.5, had a nice sophomore season as well. He caught 35 passes for 567 yds and 5 touchdowns. He could very well be the man that breaks all of Leo's records. This kid has a promising future ahead of him. He is bigger and faster than Leo, but Leo has the shake and bake of a Peter Warrick.
Smithville HS - The sophomore tight end that I mentioned yesterday is Eddrick Stegall. Eddrick, who is 6-4, 240, recorded 34 receptions, 619 yards and 7 touchdowns.
11/09/00
Harrison Central HS - All-Coast linebacker/receiver Iroko Ayodele (6-2, 200) set a school record with 80 solo tackles this season. According to my source, he and his teammate Isiah Martin have verbally committed to Ole Miss.
Louisville HS - Louisville has several players that SEC schools and Southern Miss are recruiting.
Walnut HS - Not sure what his name is but, according to a source, Walnut has a 6-2 wide receiver that has only played a year of football but, although very raw, has shown great potential. Anybody out there know his name and his classification?
Smithville HS - The word is they have a 6-4, 240, sophomore tight end who could be the best tight in in North Mississippi. According to a source of mine, he has great hands and good speed for a player his size. If you know his name, please email it to me at swindoll@genespage.com.
Durant HS - A source of mine has told me that Durant has a couple of players that bear watching. One is Roundtree (not sure what his first name is). He is a 6-1, 220-pound linebacker/fullback. Don't know his name but they also have a 6-4, 200-pound quarterback who could probably play receiver or on defense on the next level. Need the name and classification of both players if you are from Durant, Mississippi.
11/07/00
Harrison Central HS - Here are the names of a couple of HCHS players who are having great seasons.
Coldwater HS - Coldwater HS, a small school between Senatobia and Hernando, has a 10th grade basketball player who deserves attention. Coldwater played Rosa Fort HS this past Saturday night. 10th grader Jeramie Migale Moore, a 6-2 shooting guard, scored 22 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in 20 minutes of play. He made six three-pointers in the five-point loss. If you want to see him play, Coldwater plays Rosa Fort at home this coming Saturday night. According to my source, this youngster is a player who never gives up and plays with great effort. Remember this name.
Noxapater HS - Here is a little info on Noxapater HS kicker/punter Scott Shurden. Scott, who I consider one of the top two junior kickers in the state of Mississippi, is 5-8 and weighs about 160 pounds. In 1999, he set a Mississippi State record with 18 field goals in one season. This was also third nationally. Other honors include earning top awards at the Tiffin/Pope/Proctor Kicking School (Best placekicking accuracy among 17-18 years old) and Kris Brown Kicking Academy (Best kicker award). He also performed well at the Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, and Tulane kicking camps during the summer of 2000.
11/06/00
Noxubee County HS - Here are the names of several players (freshman to seniors) from Noxubee County HS (Macon, MS.) who have a good chance to play on the next level. BTW, Noxubee County HS, coached by M.C. Miller (79-61-1 at NCHS), will be playing at Florence HS this coming Friday night as they begin play in the Class 4A playoffs.
11/02/00
East Webster HS - Here is quite a bit of info I received from a source of mine about senior football player Lance Crowley from East Webster.
Background info: Crowley is a 6-0, 200-lbs. linebacker/punter. So far this season he has approximately 119 tackles. During his junior year, he had 124 tackles. He is averaging 33.4 yards per punt with a long of 53 yards. He has punted for on the high school level the past four years. He attended Carol White's punting camp twice once at the University of Mississippi and the Auburn Kicking Camp at Auburn University. He has also attended Lee Stampler's American Kicking Institute. Attended Jackie Sherrill's kicking camp this past summer where he finished 1st in height and 2nd in distance from a field of approximately 15 other punters.
Recent info: In last week's game against Winona Crowley had 18 tackles with 8 being solo. East Webster was down 12 - 0 at halftime but came back to win 14 to 12. The East Webster defense, behind the play of Crowley, held Winona inside their ten-yard line twice. East Webster will be playing in the division 2a playoffs on Nov 10th at Ruleville.

Indianola finished the regular season at 9 - 2 and start the AAA playoffs this weekend. Included in those 9 wins are two victories over AAAA schools and a 3-point loss to the number one AAAA school in the state.
