Ruleville Central HS - Running back Noah Ingram has committed to Jackson State.
Adams County Christian School - ACCS will be returning 6-3, 175-pound, junior Christopher Rayborn to the mound this spring. Christopher, who has played for the Mississippi Stars the past two falls, played in the State Games in Meridian, MS. this past summer. He throws in the mid to upper 80's, has a big late breaking curve and change. ACCS will be competing in the MPSA 3A Division.
Winston Academy - Mark Hudspeth, former Winston Academy head coach / former offensive coordinator of national champion Delta State, is now the offensive coordinator at the US Naval Academy.
Pearl HS - Pearl High School's senior outfielder/pitcher Jake Bell has signed a scholarship to play baseball at Meridian Community College for new Meridian Head Coach Russ McNickle. McNickle was a Graduate Assistant at Mississippi State in 1989. Last season, Jake led the Pearl Pirates to a 26-10 record and a trip to the second round of the MHSAA Playoffs. On the mound, Jake was 8-3 with a 3.30 ERA with 69 K's in 63 IP. He was second on the team with a .379 Batting Average with 4 HR's.
01/29/01 - Here's an update from one of you on several Smith County prospects.
Mize HS - Curtis Keyes looked great at both running back and defensive back this year.
Taylorsville HS - Jason Johnson is going to be a good player for them next year as a WR/DB and RB. FB/DE Elbert Brown will lead the way for Taylorsville's running game in 2001. Chase Mickell, a DB/RB, led the team in sacks and tackles while earning division 7-2A Defensive Player of the Year. They also have a solid kicker in T. J. Grissom. The addition of OL/DL Michael Boykin will be great for the Tartars after he sat out 2000 after having "Tommy John surgery" from pitching in baseball. The big prospect though is Timmy Ducksworth, a 6-4, 320 pound lineman who recently squatted 695 pounds.
