March 2001 Mississippi High School All-Sports Skuttle-Butt

If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Do you have info you want to share? Here are the different ways you can send it to me.

Adams County Christian School - After his first start back since Porter's Chapel 9 inning game, Christopher Rayborn pitched against Porter's Chapel again Monday night, striking out 11 and giving up 3 hits. ACCS won 7-0. Freshman Te Riley hit a homerun in the game and is currently batting over .500 for the Rebels this year. Riley, who is 5-9, 190-pounds, pitches and plays firstbase. He bats right and throws left. This is a kid to watch in the future!

03/27/01
Pillow Academy - According to a source of mine, Pillow Academy has a senior-to-be defensive back by the name of Tucker Bullard that is a player to watch next year. He is 6-0, 188-pounds and runs a 4.55 forty. He is a very dependable player who never misses a practice or a weight workout. He also hits a ton.

03/20/01
St. Martin HS - According to a source of mine, St. Martin High School, located in Ocean Springs, has a very good baseball team. This year they have a senior catcher by the name of Chris Rivers. He is about 6-1, 190-lbs. Through 15 games, he is batting . 404 with 11 RBI and 1 HR. While he is a good hitter, his defensive prowess behind the plate may be even better. Due to a strong arm and extremely quick release, he has thrown out 14 of 16 base runners who have attempted to steal on him.

Adams County Christian School - An update on ACCS junior Christopher Rayborn. Due to Mississippi high school rules, Christopher did not pitch for about a week after his early season nine-inning outing against Porter's Chapel. Mississippi has a rule in place to prevent youngsters from hurting their arms by throwing too much during a season.

Alex Clay in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Micah Murray in the Pole Vault.

The Columbus Boys 4x100 relay team also finished first.

South Pike HS - SPHS has a couple of players that bear watching.

Senior Jed Easley is a 6-1, 190-lb. first baseman who, after 8 games, is hitting .350 with 4 doubles and 8 RBIs. He is also an excellent defensive first baseman.

Junior Andrez Aguilar is a 5-10, 170-lb. placekicker who has started for SPHS since the 9th grade. He has kicked a 47-yarder (1999) and a 48-yarder (2000). According to my source, he has already heard from the Texas Longhorns.

03/18/01
Wayne County HS - Through 12 games WCHS junior catcher Brett Wilson is batting .354, with 4 doubles. He has walked seven times, while striking out just four times. He has thrown out six runners out of ten attempts. Brett is not only a good hitter but also has a very strong arm. While playing Northwest Rankin last week, the coach for Northwest timed Brett's throw down to second between innings. He hit 1.9 and 2.0 seconds each time.

Olive Branch HS - According to a source of mine, Olive Branch's shortstop J.B. Fesmire is having a good season this year. Not only is he a very good hitter, but he is also an excellent defensive shortstop who has a great knowledge and understanding of the game.

Magee HS - Magee has a junior A. J. Holloway (6-0, 225-lbs) who has a chance to be a D-I prospect next season. He is a big back that can run. A. J. ran for 164 yards in the 3A state championship game against Ripley. He was also a 1,000 yards runner and he led the team in touchdowns.

Clinton HS - Mike Cashion, one of the top sophomore pitcher/outfielders in the state of Mississippi, went 6 for 6, including two doubles in last weekend's doubleheader against Forrest and Florence. Cashion, after those two games, was hitting .500 (15-for-30) on the year.

George County HS - George County (Lucedale) had 5 girl make the All-State Soccer Team. (Mary Browder-Goalie, Gina Neely-Forward, Shauna Craig, Cara Sumrall-Midfielders and Gina Welford-Defenders). Their high school team record was 22-3-1. They went to the South State Championship where they lost to Oak Grove who won the 8-4A Soccer Championship.

03/09/01
Adams County Christian School - Adams County Christian School defeated Porter's Chapel Tuesday night 4-1 in 9 innings of play behind the 20-strikeout performance of junior Christopher Rayborn.

03/02/01
Clarksdale HS - As evident by history, Clarksdale HS is known for producing very talented linebackers. Linebackers like MSU's All-American Mario Haggan and up and coming MSU defensive end Robert Spivey, who was a linebacker at Clarksdale, and All-State linebacker, Brandon Downing, a player who also signed with MSU. Well guess what, there is another outstanding underclassman linebacker that is waiting in the wings to take over where these three players left off. His name is Kenneth Kern and he is, according to my source, a very smart football player who is very strong and really knows the game of football. Keep your eye on this youngster because, if past history tells you anything about linebackers from Clarksdale HS, he has a chance to be a great one.

03/01/01
Adams County Christian School - Adams County Christian School defeated Centreville Academy Tuesday night, 10-0. Christopher Rayborn was the winning pitcher striking out 7 in 5 innings. Boo Burchfield, Bruce Wiley, and Christopher Rayborn all had doubles, while Burchfield also had a single.
