West Point HS - Baseball America has West Point (MS) HS senior outfielder Corey Carter listed as the top senior baseball player in Mississippi for the upcoming season. Corey, who is 6-3, 205, bats and throws righthanded.

Vicksburg HS - According to a source close to the situation, senior Vicksburg HS DB/WR/KR David Heard is receiving interest from schools throughout the nation. David, who is 6-0, 181 with 4.4 speed and a 240 bench and 400 squat, was team defensive captain, team defensive MVP, All-County and All-District his junior year. Excellent student.
Canton Academy - Here's another player from Canton Academy who has a chance to be a D-I player, according to a source of mine. Senior John Paul Buckley, the son of former MSU great Bill Buckley, plays wide receiver (like his Dad), safety and returns kicks. According to my source, John Paul is 6-1, 180, runs well (4.5 speed in the forty) and has tremendous hands.

Canton Academy - Chad Penn is a player to watch this coming sports season. Chad, who is a five-sport athlete, participates in baseball, basketball, football, golf and track. He plays centerfield in baseball and DB/WR in football.

Southaven HS - Brae Wright, a 6-4, 180-pound senior LHP, normally throws the ball in the 85 to 86 mph range but has topped out at 89 mph this summer. Brae is receiving attention from various SEC schools.

Kirk Academy (Grenada) - Senior fullback/punter Allen Cravens, 5-10, 205, 4.8, just returned from the Notre Dame football camp. According to my source, Notre Dame was impressed and is expected to attend one of Cravens' games during the fall. The word is Cravens, who is an excellent student, will take an unofficial visit to Princeton during football season. Cravens is camping at the Southern Miss camp.

Newton County HS - According to a source of mine, senior kicker David McConell was MVP of the LSU kicking camp two weeks ago. He is also attending kicking camps at USM and Auburn in the next few weeks.

Wayne County HS - Brodie Jones (5-10, 215, 4.7) now benches 375 pounds and squats 575 pounds. He was selected as WCHS's Most Valuable Linebacker in 2000 and placed 2nd in the 2001 MHSAA State Powerlifting Final.

Olive Branch HS - J B Fesmire, of Olive Branch High School, signed a baseball scholarship with UAB. He finished his senior campaign with a 587 batting average.
Tupelo HS - The All-Area 1st team in baseball came out in last Sunday's paper and seniors-to-be Bo Baxter and Kevin Caldwell made the team. Baxter batted .416, with 46 RBI's and 6 home runs, while Caldwell batted .510 with 40 RBI's.
Ripley HS - According to a source of mine, senior-to-be Claudia Johnson is a 5-7 point guard who averaged 24 points and 8 rebounds during he junior year. She was the county MVP along with MVP of her Division 1-3A. She was also selected first team All-Area.

Humphreys Academy - Running back Shelton Adcock of Humphreys Academy (Belzoni, MS)., ran in the MPSA Meet of Champions track meet at Jackson Prep a few weeks ago. Shelton won third place in the State A Boys 100 meter dash. At North State, he ran second place times in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. At State, Shelton defeated the boy that just edged him in the 100 meter dash in the North State Meet.
Baldwyn HS - According to a source of mine, Baldwyn has a solid defensive lineman by the name of Jon Adam Bryan. Jon, who is 6-3, 220, is also an excellent student. My source went on to say that he won the Baldwyn defensive lineman award last year.
Warren Central HS - Katie Barnett, is a very good fast pitch softball player who plays for Warren Central HS. Katie will be a junior this coming year.
