06/29/04
Ripley HS - Senior-to-be kicker Jacob Simpson won both the accuracy and distance competition at Carol White's kicking camp at Ole Miss a few weeks ago. Jacob also won the distance competition at Chris Boniol's kicking camp in Memphis, TN. According to my source, he soundly defeated highly-touted kicker Justin Sparks from Briarcrest in Memphis. He also went to Mississippi State's Junior/Senior camp and went head to head with Ross Bailey and fared well. He will also attend MSU's specialty kicking camp later in July.

Indianola Gentry HS - Justin Wraggs (6-5, 285), a junior-to-be, is now benching 315 pounds and squatting 450. An honor roll student, Justin is a youngster to watch this coming season. Look for him to play not only on the offensive line but the defensive line this coming season.

06/17/04
Oak Grove HS - Junior-to-be kicker Taylor Lovitt had 56 PAT last year with 4 field goals (a long of 42 againt Meridian in 2nd round playoffs). He also hit a 27-yarder in the South State Championship against Picayune which was ranked 3rd in class 5A.

Ripley HS - Senior-to-be Cody Samples, a 5-8, 180-pound punter/holder, averaged 37 yards a punt last year which earned him All Division 1-3A and Most Valuable Special Teams player. According to my source, he also won the distance/hang time competition at Carol White's kicking camp at Ole Miss.

Ripley HS - Senior-to-be kicker Jacob Simpson, in the Ripley vs. Okolona spring game, kicked all 6 of his extra points and kicked 3 of his 5 kickoffs into the endzone. My source has seen him kick 50+ yard field goals on many occasions in practice. He recently attended the Ole Miss camp and will attend the Chris Boniol camp in Memphis during the upcoming weekend, and will be at Mississippi State's camp at the end of July. The rumor is he is interested in Mississippi State, Florida, and Clemson at the moment.

Starkville HS - Keep an eye on junior-to-be DE/TE Thomas Webb (6-4, 210). I saw him for the first time the spring of 2003 and came away very impressed.

06/01/04
Trinity Episcopal - Two players to watch are sophomore-to-be Stephen Ridley, a 6-1, 210-pound tailback with 4.55 speed, and senior-to-be Zach Rogel, a 5-10, 170-pound quarterback with a strong arm and 4.6 speed.

Both come from good athletic bloodlines. Rogel's uncle, Kyle Morris, played at the University of Florida while Ridley's brother, Chad, starred at Delta State.

According to my source, both youngsters will be attending the Ole Miss and the Manning camps this summer.
