Support your hometown high school sports team because these players and coaches put forth a lot of effort and hard work to be the best they can be and by going to their games you show them that you appreciate their efforts. If you want to have an added incentive, go to the game to see if you can find a prospect I can put on this page. I want your input to make this page the best it can be.

07/30/98 - Speaking of bombers. Did you know the strongest quarterback arm at the Ole Miss camp did not belong to Eli Manning or Kevin Fant, but Chuck Spearman, a little known 6-4, 180 kid, up until now that is, from Booneville HS? Spearman led the Boonville HS team to the 2A State Championship game last year before being defeated by Ackerman. Watch this kid this year. He may surprise a lot of us.
07/30/98 - By the way, Ryan Porter, who is a 1997 Delta State Graduate, accepted the Head Baseball job at Adams County Christian School in Natchez and will be moving down there next weekend. He was the assistant baseball coach at Jackson Prep last year. He had planned to return to DSU and be a graduate assistant for Mike Kinnison but ACCS made him an offer he could not refuse.
07/25/98 - According to local television station in the Laurel/Hattiesburg area, Northeast Jones HS head football coach Larry Ishee has resigned effective July 31st. No reason for the resignation was given.
07/23/98 - Looks like another outstanding high school player from Mississippi is being overlooked. Heritage Academy's Matt Fowler, who is playing for the Starkville American Legion team is 8-0, with a 1.97 ERA, 68 K's in 56 innings. He is also batting .382 with 5 home runs and 26 RBIs in 35 games. He is throwing 85-86 mph and is an all-star shortstop. If any of you college coaches are looking for an addition to your team, Matt is one worth looking at.
07/22/98 - Looks like the state of Mississippi has some super fast high school players this year. I mentioned earlier about the 4.25 run by Natchez HS wide receiver Greg Carter at MSU's football camp. Well guess what? Amory HS junior tailback Deshaun Fields ran a 4.27 forty at the Florida State camp. As was Carter's 4.25 at MSU's camp, Fields' forty time was the fastest at the FSU camp.
07/18/98 - Look for Caledonia to announce a new football coach in the next day or two. Because I'm not sure the board has approved him, I will not post his name at this time. However, I will say he is an assistant at a Mississippi school about an hour from Caledonia. I have also heard from his peers that he is a young, energetic, very knowledgeable coach who will do well at Caledonia. All of us Caledonians need to get behind him 100%.
07/14/98 - New Pearl HS baseball coach Tim Dowdy has completed his coaching staff. He hired Joey Culotta from Columbus HS and retained John McHenry from the previous coaching staff. Culotta played his high school ball at Oxford HS and then signed with Delta State University where he pitched as a freshman before arm problems prematurely ended his career. He finished his education at Miss State and has coached at Columbus (MS) HS for the past two years. John McHenry played his high school ball at Pearl HS and returned home, after college, to begin his coaching career at his alma mater.
07/09/98 - Is there a future Olympian in Mississippi? According to a source of mine, there very well could be. Kele Parks (5-10, 146), from Greenville, Mississippi, was the leading scorer for his high school soccer team last year as a freshman. Kele also plays olympic development program soccer for the Clinton Arsenal. This is a young man who we should follow throughout his career.
07/07/98 - Shelly Gary, of Pillow Academy, may wind up playing shooting guard or even small forward for Delta State this coming season. According to my source, DSU likes her at those two positions because of her shooting range and speed. It also doesn't hurt that she is 6-0 and very athletic.
07/04/98 - When next season's high school baseball season starts keep an eye out for these three Ripley HS baseball players: Clint Jordan, Kyle Jordan and Andy Wilbanks. Wilbanks, according to my source, is one of the best pitchers in the area.
07/04/98 - According to the Natchez Democrat, Ole Miss and Nichols State have offered Cathedral (Natchez) HS quarterback Von Hutchins a scholarship. Ole Miss offered as a wide receiver and Nichols State as a quarterback.
07/02/98 - Two Mississippi HS players, Jarvis Sellers, a running back from Moss Point, and Matt Daniels, a WR from Hattiesburg, have decided to walk on at Southern Miss.
07/01/98 - Two Mississippi high school baseball players, David Brister of Jackson Prep and Dustin Cliburn of Hillcrest Christian, will both be going to the Team One Invitational Showcase in Lexington, Ky. the 2nd week of August.
