01/30/99 - Chris Bell of Bruce HS scored 18 pts (4 three's) against Nettleton and 20 (4 three's) vs. Hatley. He was also chosen by the Clarion-Ledger as one of the top performers of the week in a 29 pt performance, which also included 4 steals and 8 rebounds. He was recently selected by the USA Junior Nationals to play in games on March 14 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and also games in Columbus, Ohio and Toronto, Canada during the month of July.
01/30/99 - Is Smithville's running back Matt Greir headed to Ole Miss or Memphis? He visited Ole Miss last weekend and one of my sources believes he is headed there if their offer is solid. Memphis has an offer on the table. A teammate of his to watch is 6-0, 215-pound junior linebacker/fullback Chad Gipson, a good student who is already receiving interest from Alabama.
01/29/99 - Adam Garner is a sophomore 2/3 position player for Heritage Academy (Columbus, MS). He had 37 pts. this past Tuesday night and has consistently scored in double figures all season. Adam, about 6'2", is a great shooter who has been playing in the summers with local AAU teams and attending several camps.
01/28/99 - Have you heard of David Mooneyham? Well, you are about to. David (6.05, 182-lbs) is an outstanding all-around athlete from Amory HS who is a kicker, punter, punt returner and wide receiver. What the heck, he's even a letter winner many times over in baseball, basketball and soccer. Over his career, David has kicked 15 of 17 FGAs, 165 of 181 XPAs, had 88 receptions for 1,675 yards (22 TDs), punted 181 times for a 35 yard average, and returned 51 punts for a 5.7 average. He has been All-Division, All-Monroe County and All-Area too many times to mention. Plus, he is a great young man who is a leader on and off the field and an excellent student.
01/28/99 - Dennis Buse led the Tupelo Golden Wave to an upset victory over the Jackson Provine, the #1 ranked team in Mississippi. The game was played at the New Albany Hot Bed Classic. Dennis, a 6-1, 175-lb, point guard, scored 27pts including 21 in the second half. Tupelo is currently 20-0 and ranked #2 in the Mississippi prep polls. In the past week, Dennis has received calls from USM, MSU, Sam Houston,Ole Miss,and several division II schools.
01/26/99 - Pascagoula HS offensive lineman (center) Hunter Higdon (6-2, 280, 5.2, 410 bench press) has committed to play football at Harvard. Hunter, who has a 4.0 GPA and a 30 ACT, was selected 1st Team All-State, All-Coast, as well as being a Wendy's Heisman finalist, and will participate in the MS/ALA All-Star football game.
01/23/99 - A player to watch at Weir HS is junior Trey Gant. Trey (WR/P, 5-10, 155) is a tough competitor who really plays hard.
01/23/99 - Taylorsville HS has a very good guard by the name of Amanda McGill (former All-State RB Gary McGill's sister). Amanda, 5-7, is averaging 30 ppg, 3 spg, 5 apg and about 7 rpg. She has been a starter since the 8th grade and has never averaged less than 10 ppg.
01/23/99 - Aberdeen HS has a junior, Travis Blanchard, who has intercepted a total of 19 passes the past two seasons. He is a 5-10, 175 defensive back with 4.4-4.5 speed in the forty, cat quick and can jump out of the gym, according to my source.

01/17/99 - What Mississippi High School program is on the rise big-time? What about Columbus HS? According to a source of mine, CHS is gaining fast on the premier programs in the state and could be the premier basketball program in the state very, very soon.
01/17/99 - A few nights ago, in a 73-31 win over Okolona, Jessica Dunlap scored a team high 32 pts with 12 rebounds in just 3 quarters of play.
01/17/99 - Recently, Chris Bell of Bruce HS, scored 21 pts (six 3-pointers included) against Houston HS, 18 pts (four 3-pointers included) against Eupora and 20 pts (six 3-pointers included) against Calhoun City.
01/17/99 - Watch out for Velma Jackson's Daniel Banks. A source of mine said he has consistently scored 25 points against just about every opponent VJ has played.

"Northeast Jones is having a great year led by former MSU Bulldog Student Assistant Todd Hutchinson. NEJ is 20 - 1 and ranked # 8 in the latest AP High School Poll. The Tigers are led by 6-1 Derrick White (who has D-1 ability) with 18.0 ppg and 9 rpg. 6-5 Eddie Harper, a Jr. who will get looks next year, is the 2nd leading scorer on a team averaging 15 pts per game. NEJ beat rival Laurel last Wednesday night for the first time in 3 years. Look for Tigers to Be in the Coliseum come State Tourney time."
01/17/99 - Carthage HS started two 9th grade running backs this past season: Michael Gardner and Raymond Youngblood. As 8th graders, they ran 1 and 2 in the 100M and 200M for Carthage's track team. Their track coach is Johnny Barfield, a former State Coach of the Year in Mississippi. My source saw Youngblood carry the ball 3 times for 210 yards (three 70-yard TDs) when he was a 7th grader.
01/17/99 - Starkville HS has a player to watch in Rod Prather. He is dynamite when on, according to a source of mine.
01/17/99 - Aberdeen HS has a top punting prospect in Ben Mattox. Ben, a 5-11, 240, junior, was recently named to the Monroe County Super Team Offense, the Class 3A-4A Offense 1st Team and All-District 2nd Team Offense. He averaged 40 yards per punt. He also benches 225 pounds, squats 400 pounds and deadlifts 415 pounds. He also plays center on the football team, catcher on the baseball team and is on the golf team.
01/12/99 - Saturday night Jessica Dunlap scored 29 points in a 57-50 win over Mooreville for the championship in the Mooreville Tournament. In a 39-36 win over Amory Friday night, she scored a team high 18 pts.
01/08/99 - The word out of Batesville is the South Panola HS linemen quartet of Michael Brassell, Toriano Brown, Derrick Carr and Justin Pope will visit Marshall in the next few weeks.
01/07/99 - Jessica Dunlap scored 39 points and hauled down 10 rebounds in a 77-39 Hatley HS win over Mantachie. Teammate Tina Howell added 14 points.
01/05/99 - Houston HS sophomore running back Shane Stafford (6-2, 220) was selected most valuable offensive back in Division I-4A.
