02/23/99 - Info from one of you:
"The Brookhaven Panthers hosted Warren Central and St. Andrews this past Saturday in the Brookhaven Diamond Classic. Warren Central, led by Southern Miss. signee Shea Douglas, defeated St. Andrews 15 to 1 in the 1st game. In the second game, St. Andrews defeated Brookhaven 5-4 in eight innings. Warren Central, coached by Delta State alumnus Sam Temple, defeated Brookhaven 10-0 in the third game. Warren Central, a veteran ballclub, should be a favorite in the North 5A."

02/18/99 - Tuesday night, in a 61-41 win over Mooreville in the first round of the divisional tournament, Jessica Dunlap scored 30 pts pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in the win.
02/14/99 - A youngster to watch is Hayden Sullivant. Here is a little bit of info about him.
02/11/99 - Tuesday night in a win over Amory, Hatley HS's Jessica Dunlap scored 38. Last week, in a 67-46 win over Mooreville she scored 36 and in a win over Hamilton she scored 28.
02/10/99 - Here's more info on one of the Pontotoc HS players I mentioned yesterday. Ellis Scott actually weighs 213 pounds and is 6-1.5 tall. At a recent weight lifting meet, he won the 220-lb classification with a total lift of 1,395 (550 squat, 290 bench, 555 dead-lift). His total was more than the 242, 275 and super-heavy weight classifications. That's not all. According to my source, Ellis is a head-hunter on the football field and a great student in the classroom.
02/10/99 - One of the top junior defensive backs in Mississippi this year was Travis Blanchard of Aberdeen HS. Look for Travis to be one of the top seniors in Mississippi next year.
02/09/99 - Am I lucky enough to have publicly discovered the next great Pontotoc High School football player? According to a source of mine, I have. Dedrick Clark, the 6-4.5, 220-lb freshman DB/LB from Pontotoc HS that I mentioned on Feb 2nd, is potentially the best football player to have played at Pontotoc in the last 15 years according to my source, who has followed Pontotoc HS athletics for the last 15 years. My source told me Dedrick is a great, great athlete who is also a great kid with solid grades. In fact, my source told me he felt Dedrick, if he continues to work hard and develop, could be the best football player in Mississippi his senior year. Watch this kid, folks.
BTW, Dedrick is not the only great athlete on Pontotoc's HS football team. Another one to watch is sophomore LB/FB Ellis Scott (6-1, 225) a tough customer who was a load to bring down as a fullback. Here's another one to watch for the next few years. Thanks for keeping me informed Pontotoc sources.
02/09/99 - An Morton/Kemper County basketball update from one of you:
"It was the tale of two halves. Morton went ahead on a six point run before half. Up 31-28 after being down all half by as many as 8, Morton took control in the 3rd, allowing only 2 points by Kemper County. The 4th didn't get much better. Final was 64-42. This gives Morton the number 1 seeding in the upcoming tournament with Kemper County 2nd. The big story was the 5'9" Morton guard, Roderick Clark. He tallied 37, to go with 37 on the previous Tuesday against Meridian. Not a bad week at the office. Gene, this guy is the best shooter I have seen. There may be better scorers, but I haven't seen anyone with the consistency, accuracy and range since DW. Two D1 schools were in attendance on Friday, and the Coach said several had requested tape since their Meridian game. Somebody is going to get a good one! No other exciting changes in HS in this area. This is the last regular season week before the tournaments get underway."
02/05/99 - If any of you are looking for basketball games, check this email out:
Should have a barn burner in central Ms. tonight. Kemper County faces defending state 3A champs Morton at Morton for the 5-3A regular season champion. Morton has an awesome guard who scored 37 on Tuesday against Meridian. Kemper County is 15-8 with a 9-game win streak on the line.
02/05/99 - A quote from one of you:
Milton Garth of Leland High School had a banner year at Leland this year. They played him at linebacker, defensive lineman, offensive lineman, kicker, punter, PR team, KR team, and running back. He is one of the most fierce linebackers in the state. Milton is one of the best kept secrets in the state. He is even better at running back where he did not play as much because they used him everywhere else. In 2 years some college will get a very versatile player with enormous potential. His coach was quoted as saying that he wished he had 10 other players with his attitude and work ethic. It will be a shame if Mississippi colleges missed out on him because I hear he is moving out of state after this year.
02/03/99 - Here's the latest on several uncommitted South Panola football players:
02/02/99 - More info on Dedrick Clark from one of you:
Dedrick is an excellent athlete at 6-4.5, 220, 4.8. He has good speed and is learning to play the game of football. Played strong safety/outside linebacker for Pontotoc High this past season. Saw him dunk a basketball with both hand in the sixth grade. Not sure how good he will be in either football or basketball since he is a 15-year old freshman starting in both sports this year. Dedrick should be on everybodies list over the next couple of years as he continues to improve.
"Great kid, with good grades."
