Marshall defeated Marvell Academy (AR) 9 to 1. Three junior pitchers and one sophomore pitcher shared the pitching duties. Juniors Jason Burch (IP -2, H-0, R-0, SO-3, BB-1), Michael Novarese (IP-2, H-0, R-0, BB-2), Paul Maholm (IP-2, H-0, R-0, SO-3, BB-0), and sophomore Garrett Elliott (IP-1, H-0, R-1, SO-1, BB-2) threw a no-hitter. He was the most dreaded pitcher in the league at that time because he threw a very fast fastball.

Dusty, who excelled for the Pontotoc American Legion team last summer, is a solid hitter and very good defensive catcher.
