If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Support your hometown high school sports team because these players and coaches put forth a lot of effort and hard work to be the best they can be and by going to their games you show them that you appreciate their efforts. If you want to have an added incentive, go to the game to see if you can find a prospect I can put on this page. I want your input to make this page the best it can be.

08/27/99 - Mary Ann and I, along with a couple of friends (Lowell and Anna Easterling), attended the Saltillo - Caledonia HS football game last night. Caledonia, which has improved tremendously over the past two years, won the game 33 to 13 behind the outstanding running of senior running back Jerome Wilson. I'm not sure how many yards Jerome had but he showed very good speed and quickness. Caledonia has a few other players that look like they have a chance to be prospects. Here are a couple of them.:
OG Roger Burton - Good size (6-4, 265), senior. First year to play on the line.
OT Dustin Kesler - Only a freshman but already has good size (6-2, 270. Needs to work on his footspeed.

Saltillo has a few players that bear watching:
DE Jerry Pierce - 6-4, 265, junior. Good footspeed and quickness. A division-I prospect if he has the grades.
C Jason Easterling - 6-0, 195, sophomore. Excellent quickness off the ball. Needs to grow but if he can keep his quickness while continuing to grow the potential is there.
QB/FS Luke May - 6-0, 180, sophomore. Came in late at QB and showed a solid arm. He threw for a touchdown on a very nicely thrown pass to his receiver in the end zone.

08/26/99 - Weir HS has several football players that could be prospects.

  • Lemuel Mitchell - Junior, DT/TE, 6-1, 235-lbs.
  • Markell McKinley - Sophomore, DT/TE, 6-2, 235-lbs.
  • Jamal Nance - Junior, RB, 5-10, 166-lbs.
  • Ben Henson - Freshman, QB, 6-1.5, 190+-lbs.
  • 08/25/99 - Hayden Sullivant of North Delta School rushed for 287 yards on 19 carries while scoring 4 TDs against Carroll Academy this past Friday night.

08/16/99 - Amory HS has a center/long and short snapper by the name of Allen Glenn who could be the best snappers in the state this year. Allen, who is 5-11.5 and weighs 235 pounds, was awarded 2nd place at the Ohio State snappers camp in 1998. He also attended the Carrol White Kickers and Snappers Camp this summer. He won the Special Teams award as a freshman and sophomore, 1st Team All-Division center as a sophomore, MVP offensive lineman, Super 24 in Division 3A for Mississippi as a junior in 1998. He has also made the All-Monroe County team the past two seasons. According to my source, Amory HS head football coach Bobby Hall said he is the best he has seen in his 23 years of coaching.

08/13/99 - Here is an update on Kelly Cumberland, the junior shortstop from Neshoba Central. She went 9-11 against two good teams, Newton County and Philadelphia, in a recent softball classic. She had a 3-run homer, double, triple, and 7 RBI as a leadoff batter. She drove in the game's winning run against Newton County in a 10-inning game. She played stellar at shortstop, committing only 1 error in 2 games and made 2 unbelievable plays, making a diving catch directly behind second base on a hard hit ball, turning around and getting a force play at second. She did this not only once, but twice. She consistently throws 58-60 mph. My source feels she could be the best shortstop in the state.

08/13/99 - According to a source of mine, Hillcrest Christian has a junior quarterback by the name of Seth Smith, 6-3, 190, who started as a sophomore. He also plays baseball and basketball.

08/08/99 - According to a source of mine, Pelahatchie HS's outstanding running back Ken Archie is receiving attention from the likes of Army, Vandy, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

08/08/99 - My source wasn't sure of his size (no height given, 300+ weight.), but did say Clarksdale HS lineman Shaka Metcalf has a chance to be a pretty good player. Anybody know anything else about Shaka?

08/03/99 - A Leland HS football player to watch for the next couple of years is a youngster by the name of Anthony Webb. Anthony, who plays quarterback, is 6-0, weighs 190-lbs, and can bench 290 pounds. He is also a good student and a member of the National Honor Society, according to my source.

08/02/99 - Eupora HS has a senior-to-be football player by the name of Collin Ray who has a chance to make a name for himself this coming football season. Collin, who is 6-1, 240-lbs and runs the forty in 4.8 seconds, will be a 4-year starter in football and baseball. He plays inside linebacker / offensive guard in football and catcher in baseball. He has recorded 289 total tackles the past three years. And has batted .504, .413 and .456 in baseball. He has attended football camps at MSU, Ole Miss and Alabama for several years. Although Collin is known as an outstanding athlete, he has also done well academically (3.7 gpa). Plus, he has been selected to the Who's Who Among HS Students 2 years, member of the FCA, and the Beta Club.
