If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Support your hometown high school sports team because these players and coaches put forth a lot of effort and hard work to be the best they can be and by going to their games you show them that you appreciate their efforts. If you want to have an added incentive, go to the game to see if you can find a prospect I can put on this page. I want your input to make this page the best it can be.

10/31/99 - Here is a very short summary of the Houston vs Amory Friday night football game by one of you:

Nick Davis was awesome tonight playing both ways for the Hilltoppers. Nick had two interceptions and many yards rushing and catching passes on offense. Also, he almost broke a punt and kickoff tonight. Fullback Shane Stafford was great in the first half but left with an injury and did not play in the second half. FB/LB Matt Childs stepped up and played every down tonight banging the inside for yardage and playing middle linebacker on defense. I'm really proud of these Hilltoppers and the best thing is we are still a young ballclub. Score: Houston 27, Amory 20.

10/29/99 - Quitman HS has a couple of underclassmen that bear watching, Evan Pickens, a 6-1, 165-lb. sophomore defensive back and Willie Pickens, a 6-0, 185-lb. junior RB/LB. According to my source, both are outstanding students as well.

10/29/99 - Milton Garth Update: Milton, a 6-1, 220-lb senior linebacker/lineman, formerly from Leland (MS) HS., now lives in Arizona, and, according to my source, is having an awesome season at Mesa High School in Mesa, Arizona, the same school that Robert Holcomb of the LA Rams attended. Milton is presently being contacted by Alabama, Texas A&M, the Univ. of Wash., and Colorado. Milton is a hot commodity here in Arizona. There are articles about Milton in the August and December issues of Prep Star Magazine. Milton was named to the Prepstar All-Region Team.

10/29/99 - In 9 games this season Hayden Sullivant, a junior, has approximately 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns on 120 carries. His school, North Delta, will play Heritage tonight for the district championship in Academy district 1-3A. The game will be in Columbus, MS at 7:30.

10/29/99 - The Mississippi Stars (18-8-1) will play at the Rebel Wooden Bat Fall Classic at Ole Miss this weekend. Games begin at 2 P.M. Friday afternoon. Teams from Memphis and Savannah, TN, Birmingham., AL, Little Rock Arkansas, and Jackson, MS will be there. The 1998 Defending Champs Mississippi Stars will play Friday night at 8 P.M., Saturday. at Noon and 3 P.M. and Sunday at 4 P.M. Go on out to see them if you live in the area.

10/26/99 - Ruleville Central HS player info:
Noah Ingram: 17 carries, 314 yards, 6 TD's (2,120 yds, 28 TDs).
Tim Jones: 15 Tackles.

10/26/99 - Info from one of you:

"Friday night I was at the East Rankin and Heidelberg Academy football game. Right before the end of the first half, Brian Kittrel kicked what appeared to be a 52-yard field goal. From where I was standing it looked like it would have been good from 60 with room to spare. From what some of the fans had told me, that he has only missed 2 field goals all year and 1 extra point."

10/18/99 - Ruleville Central HS player info:

Noah Ingram: 19 carries 218 yards 4 TD's (6,1,70,10).
Tim Jones: 20 Tackles. When this kid hits you, you stop.

Quotes from my source: "Noah, who is a junior, is 16 years old and a 3-year starter for the team. He played fullback the first two years. Last year he rushed for almost 1,000 yards in only 6 games due to a nagging ankle injury, which he injured during practice. He is now 6-0, 215-lbs, and runs about a 4.5 forty. On a 70-yard run last Friday night, two kids had the angle on him and he still out ran them. He has football speed if you know what I mean, runs faster when he has the ball. Looks like he has two or three gears. Very VERY strong. One man cannot bring him down. Good kid and does well in school. So far, over 25 schools have called his coaches to inquire about him. Since he is a junior, college coaches can't contact him personally via the telephone.

"Tim Jones is a hitter. He is only about 5-10, although he plays bigger. He leads this area in tackles. Last year was Area defensive player of the year. Several SWAC schools and Delta State have talked to him. DSU really wants him. Nice kid who is very confident. He is a senior."

10/18/99 - Player info from one of you:

Brian Kittrell, Senior kicker, Heidelberg Academy, Heidelberg, MS:
29 PAT, 6 field goals long of 49 yards, kickoffs are consistent in end zone or goal line.

10/14/99 - Info from one of you.

Junior fullback, Matt Fryfogle from George County High School is a tough player with quickness, strength and outstanding blocking abilities. He's 5'11, 230 and has over 500 yards rushing so far this season. He's benching 345, runs a 4.8 in the 40 and is an excellent student. Note: He's the brother of 6'2, 175 Senior WR, Trey Fryfogle.

10/12/99 - Info received from one of you.

I went to the Florence HS homecoming game against Wingfield the other night. Florence won in overtime I saw several good players. One was the running back from Wingfield (I don know his name). He was very, very impressive running the ball. Another player was Chris Jones from Florence. His number was called just about every play on offence. He put up some good numbers. He was the fastest player on the team but a little on the small side.

A few other players to watch are Louie Garrett...really good speed and will stick you. Plays DE/LB but is fast enough to play safety. He also returns punts (had a good return that night). Another player was running back Justin Roberts. According to my source, he has received a lot of letters from the University of Alabama and Ole Miss. Another player is place kicker Travis Johnson (a D-I player). He can kick with accuracy and has good leg strength (kicked a 52 yarder earlier this year).

10/12/99 - Taylorsville HS player info:

Amanda McGill (PG, 5-7, 125-lbs, #24) - Junior, MVP 3 years running, All Tournament Player 3 straight years, All Conference Player 3 years and All District Player 2 years. Amanda's career began in the eight grade when she became a high school starter. Amanda has scored 1,430 point. What is even more exceptional is she scored less than 10 points just six times in her career. Amanda, who is a good student, is a hard worker and a great leader. Taylorsville will consist of 9th, 10th and 11th graders.

Other prospects are:

  • Courtney Bender # 32, Junior, 5-3, 120-lbs
  • Stefanie Thomas # 20, Junior, 5-9, 140-lbs
  • Charmaine Keyes # 13, Junior, 5-9, 200-lbs

10/12/99 - Houston got their seventh win of the season last Friday. They defeated South Pontotoc. First play of the second quarter and the score was 28-0, 35-0 at half-time. They played freshmen and sophomores the rest of the way. Junior fullback Shane Stafford was back (he missed the last three games) and they could not stop him. Looks like a good match in Houston next Friday night with Shannon coming to town. Maybe there will be some scouts out there watching these really good football teams. Might be the best in North Mississippi. Look for a high scoring game and a great atmosphere around here.

10/12/99 - According to a source of mine, Olive Branch HS has a couple of players to put on your watch list.

Senior running back Sherrell Cobb: In 7 games, Cobb has passed the 1,000 yard mark. He runs a 4.4 forty. A very explosive runner.

Junior tight end Terrell Brown: 6-1, 190-lbs and still growing, runs 4.8 forty, great hands and quickness. Plays both offense and defense. Could develop into a player to be reckon with. Interested in Mississippi State.

10/12/99 - Here are a couple of young kickers to watch out for, for the next few years. The first kicker is Timothy Fieber of Neshoba Central. Timothy, who is a sophomore I believe, has Ole Miss already paying close attention. The other kicker is freshman Dustin Turner from Philadelphia HS. Dustin, who has kicked a 45-yard field goal this year, is also an outstanding soccer player.

10/12/99 - Here is the latest on three Delta area high school football players.

    Ruleville Central:
Running back Noah Ingram rushed for 136 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns in a driving rain storm in a 16-0 win over Drew. He now has 1,585 yards (leads state) and has scored 18 TD's. Linebacker Tim Jones had 24 tackles in the same game.

    North Sunflower Academy:
Linebacker Drew Gilliland had 11 tackles in a 24-0 loss to Delta Academy.

10/12/99 - Pontotoc HS info from one of you.

Dedrick Clark does show Division-I potential and is only a sophomore. He starts at linebacker (is also the defensive signal-caller) as well as on the kick-off team. I did not see him play any offense. He does not have the typical linebacker build, however. He seems to have the upper body of a well-developed basketball player and the lower body of a wide receiver. If he continues to grow to fill out his frame, he could be a monster. He is quick from side-to-side and made a beautiful open-field tackle on one kick-off.

One athlete that impressed me much more than Dedrick was Ellis Scott, a junior. He starts alongside Dedrick at linebacker and plays fullback on offense. I have him (unofficially) with 5 solo tackles, but he was in on almost every stop. He is quick, shoots the gap, and is very strong. He has the traditional linebacker build (6'2", 240 lbs). On offense, he is a very strong runner. I have him recorded with over 75 yards rushing and one TD. One run was for 25 yards following a hit in the backfield that should have gone for a loss of 5 yards. I understand that Tennessee State has sent him a letter expressing interest; I don't know of anyone else. This guy will play on Saturday in a couple of years if he stays healthy.

One other athlete that really impressed was Michael O'Neil at tailback. I do not know his year in school yet. I recorded Michael with 197 yards rushing, three TD's and one 2-point conversion. One run was a TD for 97 yards late in the 4th quarter. He is approximately 6'1", 225 lbs.

10/12/99 - According to a source of mine, here are a few more Mize HS Bulldogs that deserve a chance to be mentioned and noticed by colleges.

    Lance McKinley - Defensive Tackle
Phillip Magee - Long Snapper, Offensive Tackle
    Timmy Blackwell - Running Back

10/08/99 - Raleigh HS has a small but fast junior defensive back by the name of Derick Knight. Derick, who has 4.5 speed according to my source, is aggressive and is a hitter.

10/08/99 - Here is a little more info on several Delta football players from one of my Delta sources.

    Ruleville Central:

  • Noah Ingram: Running back. Fast, big and strong. Might be better than Dontae Walker at this stage of his career.
  • Tim Jones: Linebacker. A hitter. A little small for a linebacker but a monster on the field. Good nose for the ball.

    Mound Bayor:

  • Willie Collins: Running back. Height is 5-8. Good moves, fast and strong. Very big heart. Makes things happen by himself. Had 316 total yards against Cleveland Eastside last week (108 rushing and 208 return yards, 4 TD's).

10/07/99 - Caledonia HS Player Update: The latest word on Roger Burton is Southern Miss is very interested in him. Roger is also receiving interest from Rice, Northwestern, Ole Miss and Kentucky. For those of who haven't heard of Roger, he is a senior OL/TE who is 6-4, 270+, has 5.1/5.2 speed in the forty, 310 bench, squats 400+ pounds and is a good student.

10/07/99 - Received this info via an email last night.

Houston High School's Matt Childs (Sr, RB/LB) had 140 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns in Houston's 38 - 7 victory over Winona. Matt also played a great defensive game with numerous tackles and quarterback sack. Houston will be even stronger with fullback Shane Stafford (one of the top juniors in the state) back this Friday for the first time since being injured in the Grenada game.

10/06/99 - Falkner HS has a defensive back that is a hard-hitting head hunter by the name of Shawn Edgston. Shawn, who I have been told is a relative of MSU's Pig Prather, is a 6-0, 180 senior.

10/05/99 - Ruleville Central player info according to one of you:

Running back Noah Ingram had 267 yards on 29 carries and 3 touchdowns in a 35-20 win over Leflore County. Through 6 games Ingram is leading the state with 1,449 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Linebacker Tim Jones had 21 tackles in the same game.
