If you know of a high school player you feel is a Division-I prospect, blue chip or marginal, let me know about him or her. I want to help promote as many deserving high school players as possible. Since I am considered a booster of a major university, I cannot initiate contact with a high school coach or player, so I have to count on all of you to provide me with the information for this page.

Support your hometown high school sports team because these players and coaches put forth a lot of effort and hard work to be the best they can be and by going to their games you show them that you appreciate their efforts. If you want to have an added incentive, go to the game to see if you can find a prospect I can put on this page. I want your input to make this page the best it can be.

11/19/99 - Jessica Dunlap, a Dandy Dozen member and a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American, scored 21 pts and 10 rebounds in a win over Caledonia Tuesday night. Wednesday night, in the first round of the Houlka tournament, Jessica scored 30 pts and 13 rebounds in a 52-50 win over South Pontotoc. Hatley is now 5-0.

11/12/99 - Clarksdale HS has a couple of underclassmen who bear watching: Brandon Downing (JR, LB, 6-4, 220, 4.6) and Damian Williams (SO, DB/WR/QB, 6-4, 195). Both have the chance to be big-time players.

11/11/99 - In two preseason games last week Dandy Dozen member Jessica Dunlap combined for 38 points and 13 rebounds. In the season opener Monday night against Okolona, she had 38 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in a 91-64 win. The team is off to a 3-0 start.

11/11/99 - Brooks Oakley, senior quarterback at Senatobia High School, has led his team to their third straight Division 3-3A playoff appearance. Since becoming Senatobia's quarterback his sophomore year, Senatobia has won 24 straight division games and played in the State 3A championship game. Brooks has thrown for over 3,000 yards in his three years at the helm. This year, he has thrown for over 1,300 yards. In the last four games, he is 51 for 79 passes for 866 yards and 8 touchdowns. In last Friday night's game, he was 10 for 14 for 244 yards and 5 touchdowns.

11/06/99 - The Dog Pound Rock fever is spreading. Here's an email quote I received from one of you.

"Gene, it's catching on fast. Newton High School's entire team did it tonight on the sidelines at the beginning of the game."

11/04/99 - According to my source, North Little Rock, Arkansas won the Ole Miss Fall Wooden Bat tourney this past weekend with an undefeated record of 4-0. Clay Godwin, Tupelo High School, threw a 7 inning no-hitter. Robbie Goodson, Vicksburg High School, hit two home runs and had a pitching victory in the tourney. Five of 8 pitchers used by the Mississippi Stars did not give up any runs during their pitching appearances this weekend. The Mississippi Stars had their 9th consecutive winning fall season (20-10-1).

My source also said that any players that are interested in playing on next fall's team should contact Mississippi Stars team manager Harry Porter at biporter@juno.com.

11/04/99 - Here are the latest on Noah Ingram and Tim Jones of Ruleville Central:

  • Noah - 21 carries for 307 yards, 4 TD's (2, 1, 54, 56), had one other 50-yard TD called back because of a penalty. Leads state in yards and scoring with 2,427 yards and 32 TD's. Needs 509 yards to break the state's single season record of 2,936 yards.
  • Tim - 22 Tackles.
  • 11/04/99 - Here are Senatobia HS quarterback Brook Oakley's latest stats:
    Pass Attempts - 164
    Pass Completions - 95
    Yards - 1,285
    TD Passes - 6
    INTS - 5

11/02/99 - Saltillo HS has a player who could be one of the best kept secrets in Mississippi high school football according to a source of mine. His name is Nathan Murff. Nathan is a 5-9, 175-lb, WR/RB/DB who has very good speed and is an excellent student. He was voted 1998 SHS Football Co-MVP by the coaches his junior year.

11/02/99 - North Delta finished 9-1 in its first season under coach Willis Wright. They won the district championship vs. Heritage Academy Friday night 31-13. Junior running back Hayden Sullivant finished the regular season with 145 carries for 2,036 yards (avg.14.0) and 31 touchdowns.

11/01/99 - Here are observations from one of you.

I went to the Choctaw Central Classic Saturday night. Junior guard/forward Tan White of Tupelo looked incredible. Yazoo County has 3 tough players in Seneca Anderson, Larisha Graves, and Jackie Gainwell. All have committed to Mississippi State. A team to look out for is the West Lauderdale Lady Knights. They may not dethrone Yazoo County, but they looked impressive.
