05/16/00 - From the Meridian Star:
Meridian Community College's Travis Garner went from the emergency room to the record book in less than 24 hours.

Garner, who unbeknownst to MCC coach Scott Berry, was suffering from a virus, had to be treated in a local emergency room on Friday night.

He bounced back and started for the Eagles on Saturday during MCC's 6-5 win over Bossier Parish.

"I asked him before the game and he said he could go, so we put him out there," Berry said.

It worked out good for Garner, as the freshman from Sturgis, walked and stole second in the first inning. That steal gave him 35 in a season and set a new school record.

05/15/00 - I was recently told that former Maben (MS) HS standout running back Randy Bell, who is now a sophomore-to-be at EMCC, ran a 4.4 forty at the juco combine that was recently held on the campus of East Mississippi CC. According to my source, a large number of college coaches attended the combine.

Baseball - The Northwest CC Rangers won the state junior college title this past Sunday. They will participate in the regionals this coming weekend at Co-Lin CC. The games start Thursday. Northwest CC and Co-Lin have a first day bye.
