08/23/03 - Baseball news.

  • Baseball practice starts on September 8th. Practices are open to the public.
  • Third baseman Steve Gendron and outfielder Jon Mungle, both drafted in the June Major League Baseball Draft, turned down the offers made by the teams that drafted them. This has been confirmed due to the fact that both attended class.
  • 08/16/03 - One of the top catchers and players in the southeast has committed to MSU, Edward Easley of Olive Branch (MS) High School. Edward was recruited by many of the SEC and ACC schools as well as other major colleges. According to his dad, Mike, "(Edward) and his family are very proud to be a part of the Bulldog family."

08/03/03 - While pitching in a game in Memphis a little over a week ago, MSU baseball signee Jon Crosby, a right-handed pitcher who played his high school ball in Germantown, Tenn., was hit in the eye by a line drive back to the mound, breaking the bones surrounding his eye. The doctors put metal in where the bones were shattered. According to my source, the doctor who performed the operation told the family that Jon's prognosis is good. Luckily for Jon the bones acted as a cushion and protected the eye when the ball hit his face. My source went on to say that Jon and his parents are looking forward to his upcoming baseball career at MSU.
