STARKVILLE, Miss. - On the eve of the start of preseason practice, Mississippi State moved up a notch in the first inseason rankings conducted by Collegiate Baseball magazine.

The Diamond Dogs, who open their 2004 campaign Feb. 27-29 hosting Western Kentucky and Illinois in the MSU Challenge, climbed from No. 30 to No. 29 in the poll conducted by the Arizona-based publication.

A forecast of rain Tuesday will likely push Mississippi State's first preseason practice indoors. State's initial practice will now be held in the spacious Shira Fieldhouse at 3:15 p.m. and later in the Grisham Indoor Hitting Range at Dudy Noble Field.

Rice and Miami continue to share the top spot in the Collegiate Baseball poll, with the top 25 remaining unchanged after limited college baseball action last week.

BASEBALL SEASON TICKET SALES UPDATE: Mississippi State's 2004 baseball season ticket sales have climbed near the 4,000 mark. The MSU Athletic Ticket Office has now processed orders for 3,838 season tickets. State sold 5,230 season tickets in 2003, marking the third straight year that sales eclipsed the 5,000 mark.
