6/22/00 - According to several newspapers in the Southeast, Mississippi State has hired Georgia State University Associate Head Basketball Coach Phil Cunningham as its newest assistant basketball coach. Phil, who is a 10-year college coaching veteran, is no stranger to Mississippi State, serving as a graduate assistant coach at MSU during the 1991-92 season. After his one year stint at MSU, Phil took over the head coaching position at Sue Bennett College (London, KY.), a former two-year junior college that was entering its first year of four-year college status when it hired Phil. While at SBC, Phil's teams won 48 games and finished in the NAIA's top 10 in scoring and field goal percentage. He also showed his dedication to academics as evidenced by the fact that all 10 players that completed their eligibility under his three-year stay (1992-95) at SBC graduated. Phil left SBC to work for well-known basketball coach Lefty Driesell at James Madison University (1995-97). When Lefty took the job at Georgia State, Phil was the first coach Lefty hired. He has worked there for the past three years (1997-2000).

6/21/00 - Here is a little basketball tidbit from a source of mine. Tang Hamilton weighs 225 lbs. and is looking like he has hit the weights this spring and summer. Marckell Patterson is also looking a lot bigger. Tyrus Boswell was also looking good.

Women's Basketball - MSU women's basketball had over 200 campers at their individual basketball camp which was held a few days ago. Yesterday, they had 44 high school teams at their team camp.
6/08/00 As most of you know by now, senior-to-be Dwayne Mitchell (6-2), from New Orleans (John F. Kennedy) LA, has verbally committed to play basketball at MSU beginning in the year 2001. I knew absolutely nothing about him when I first read that he had committed to State. Since then, I have checked around and found that Hoop Scoop has him ranked in their top-60, nationally.
6/07/00 (11:05 a.m.) - Guy Gardner update: Disregard my earlier post from today's skuttle-butt. I just found out that Guy Gardner has not signed with Troy State. I was incorrect with my earlier post. I have been told by one of my most reliable sources that Guy is presently living in Starkville working out to prepare for this upcoming season.
6/07/00 - It appears the rumor about Northeast CC point guard Guy Gardner signing with Troy State is true.
6/06/00 - The rumor is Northeast CC point guard Guy Gardner, a player that has been rumored to be walking-on at MSU this coming fall, may have signed a full scholarship to play for Troy State. Can any of you confirm this rumor?
