06/25/02 - I found out yesterday that power forward Emanuel Willis of Mendenhall (MS) HS, a player that MSU is recruiting, is rated the 47th best player in the nation according to HoopScoop.
06/19/02 - Seven-foot, two-inch, redshirt freshman center Wesley Morgan is now up to 247 pounds, a gain of 12 pounds since the beginning of last season.

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State University head basketball coach Rick Stansbury announced Thursday that forward Shane Power of Crown Point, Ind., has signed with the Bulldogs.
Power, 6-5, 210 pounds, played the previous two seasons at Iowa State University. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he must sit out the upcoming 2002-03 basketball season at MSU and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Bulldogs beginning in 2003-04.
A 31-game starter for Iowa State this past season, Power ranked as the Cyclones' third-leading scorer (13.6 ppg) and No. 3 rebounder (4.5 rpg) in earning honorable mention all-Big 12 honors as selected by the league's coaches. The recipient of last year's ISU Outstanding Defensive Player Award, Power led the Cyclones with 37 steals and ranked second with 73 assists, along with shooting 44 percent overall from the field, 32 percent from beyond the three point arc and 80 percent from the free-throw line. A communication studies major at Iowa State, Power also garnered second-team academic all-Big 12 accolades a season ago.
A two-year letterman at Iowa State, Power averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest in 31 appearances as a true freshman en route to earning the 2000-01 ISU Mr. Hustle Award. During his two-year collegiate career in Ames, Iowa, Power totaled 567 points (9.1 ppg), 257 rebounds (4.1 rpg), 97 assists and 50 steals in 62 outings.
A four-time all-area selection at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Ind., Power averaged 26.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game as a prep senior in helping lead coach Clint Swan's 59ers to a 24-3 record and runner-up finish in the 2000 Indiana Class 3A state tournament. In completing his high school career as Andrean's all-time leading scorer with 2,110 career points, Power finished his prep playing days as the all-time leading scorer in the Northwest Indiana region as well as currently ranking 20th on the state of Indiana's all-time high school scoring chart.
A two-time Hammond Times Player of the Year recipient in high school, Power was a finalist for Indiana's prestigious 1999-2000 Mr. Basketball Award, in addition to receiving the Arthur L. Trestor Award for Mental Attitude at the 2000 Indiana state tournament. A four-year varsity starter at Andrean High School, Power helped pace the 59ers to an 81-20 composite record and three state tournament appearances.

06/07/02 - While watching MSU basketball camp games in the Sanderson Rec Center yesterday, I saw several of our basketball players, Derrick Zimmerman, Lincoln Smith, Marcus Campbell, Timmy Bowers, Ontario Harper, Michal Ignerski and Wesley Morgan. Derrick and I talked for a couple of minutes. He is very excited about the upcoming season and believes MSU will do extremely well. He said all the players but one were in summer school. The one who wasn't there had personal family matters to take care of the first semester. It was great to hear the players were all staying in summer school. It will be great for team chemistry.
