Women's Basketball
Freshman Blessing Chekwa injured her right knee in the first half of the semifinal game versus Tennessee in the SEC Tournament this past weekend in North Little Rock, Ark. She has torn her ACL in her right knee and will be out for the remainder of the season.

03/06/03 - 2003 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament Scenarios

The following information takes a look at the Southeastern Conference tie-breaker procedures for the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament and how those tie-breakers could play out following the final week of conference games.

For a two-team tie: 1. head-to-head; 2. division record (10 games); 3. record vs. No. 1 team in division proceeding through the No. 6 team if necessary; 4. non-division record (6 games); 5. record vs. No. 1 team in the opposite division proceeding through the No. 6 team if necessary; 6. coin flip by the Commissioner.

For a three-team tie: 1. head-to-head among the tied teams; 2. division record (10 games); 3. record vs. No. 1 team in division proceeding through the No. 6 team if necessary; 4. non-division record (6 games); 5. record vs. No. 1 team in the opposite division proceeding through the No. 6 team if necessary; 6. coin flip by the Commissioner.

Once a three-team tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreakers go in effect.


Women's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference announced its 2003 women's basketball postseason awards Wednesday, highlighted by Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas being named Player of the Year and LSU's Seimone Augustus being named Freshman of the Year. First-team, second-team and honorable mention All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year were chosen by the league's 12 coaches. In order to become honorable mention, a player had to receive at least one first-team vote and not be listed on first or second team.

Thomas, along with South Carolina's Jocelyn Penn were unanimous first-team members. Tennessee was the only team to have multiple first-team members.

Tennessee's Pat Summitt was named SEC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career. This season the Lady Vols finished the regular season with a 26-3 overall record and a perfect 14-0 conference record.

The 2003 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament begins Thursday, March 6 and runs through Sunday, March 9 in North Little Rock, Ark. FOX Sports Net South will televise all games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while ESPN2 will broadcast the championship game at 3 p.m. CT.
