STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University head basketball coach Rick Stansbury confirmed Monday that junior forward Lawrence Roberts of Houston, Texas, has signed a Southeastern Conference scholarship with MSU after taking an official visit to Mississippi State this past weekend. He also had plans on officially visiting Indiana and Arizona but decided not to after his visit to MSU.
Lawrence, a pre-season John Wooden Award candidate, is transferring from Baylor University, which has seen its basketball beset with controversy this summer. Due to the controversy, Baylor self-imposed sanctions on its basketball program and has also given all of its basketball players a waiver so that they can transfer to other colleges if they prefer to. Lawrence and his family are petitioning NCAA so that he won't have to sit out this year as is customary when transferring from one DI school to another DI.
