1998-1999 MSU Basketball Recruiting Prospects (Updated 5/20/99).

06/25/99 - According to MidSouth-Hoops, the NBA has reported that 12 players have withdrawn from the NBA draft to be held on 6/30. They include "Greedy" Daniels from MSU and Jamaal Magliore from Kentucky. Check out MidSouth-Hoops news section for the complete details. They also have info on the SEC All-Star team that will be going to Japan in August. Our own Tang Hamilton is on it.

06/22/99 - From a source of mine: On the basketball front former MSU center Tyrone Washington will be in Houston today working out for the Rockets. Former Alcorn star Larry Smith is on staff with the Rockets and likes his fellow Delta native Washington who's currently projecting out between pick numbers 32 and 45.

06/22/99 - MSU basketball signee Antonio Jackson has been admitted to MSU contingent upon a final transcript from his Juco.

06/20/99 - The current MSU basketball players you will usually see at the Sanderson Rec Center are Tang Hamilton, Marckell Patterson and Todd Myles. The other guards are there less often. My source did not know if any of the signees were playing in the games. BTW, you will also see MSU quarterback Wayne Madkin in pickup games quite often.

One former Bulldog who was seen this past week was Marcus Grant. My source said he looked in good shape and could still shoot the ball with the best of them.

06/19/99 - Correction: Former Bulldog Oral Roberts is expected to graduate in the Summer of 2000, not next semester as I posted two days ago. Sorry for the error.

06/17/99 - Just thought you would like an update on a couple of our former Bulldogs:

Oral Roberts only needs one more semester of school to graduate.
Darryl Wilson has been playing in Italy on a 10-month contract.

06/15/99 - Just thought you guys would like to know some of the MSU basketball players play pick-up games in the Sanderson Rec Center most evenings. If you see them, let them know you support them and are looking forward to next season. BTW, don't be surprised to see at least one of our newest recruits, Antonio Jackson, playing in the games. The word is he is a good shooter but needs to add some strength in preparing for the rigors of the SEC.

06/15/99 - The latest word on former MSU standout Tyrone Washington is he is at a NBA draft camp in Chicago working out for the pro scouts.

06/15/99 - Sulligent HS in Sulligent, AL. has two senior girl's basketball players attending MSU's basketball camp this summer. They are Amy Jaggers and Lindsey Boyett. Both Amy, who averaged 14.4 ppg, and Lindsey, who averaged 25.2 ppg this past season, are excellent students and great youngsters who will be an asset to any college program. BTW, Lindsey has been starting since the 8th grade.

06/14/99 - More news from MidSouth-Hoops. It appears Greedy Daniels, a former McDonald's All-American, has withdrawn from the NBA Draft and will attend MSU next year and sit out a year as required by NCAA transfer rules. I have not been able to get a second confirmation but will attempt to in the next few days.

06/13/99 - MidSouth-Hoops now has online their analysis of MSU's recruiting efforts for this past recruiting season. Go to http://www.MidSouth-Hoops.com/ and click on the Mississippi State box on the front page.

06/12/99 - According to someone who talked to former Bulldog basketball player Tyrone Washington a few days ago, Tyrone is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania working out and getting ready for the draft. His agent predicts him to possibly go late first round or early second round. He has been working out with players such as New Mexico's Kenny Thomas and Georgia's Jumaine Jones. He said he has a nice apartment and is looking forward to the draft. He says he misses Mississippi State and would not trade anything for the experiences he had here.

06/12/99 - Here is an update from a Nashville, Tenn. source of mine on the shooting that may have involved former MSU basketball player Dontae Jones.

Dontae Jones turned himself into Nashville police today (6/11/99) and was charged with Felony Reckless Endangerment and Felony Vandalism in connection with a shooting incident outside a Nashville Nightclub.

06/09/99 - Future Stars magazine ranks two of MSU's spring signees very highly, according to their latest magazine. Juco player Antonio Jackson was ranked the 6th best juco player on their All-American team, while high school player Derrick Zimmerman was ranked in the Top 33 overall players (one of the Top 5 wing guards) who signed during the spring signing period.

06/06/99 - Guess who was at MSU's basketball camp yesterday? Here's a hint: He has a chance to be one of the Top 5 to 10 best high school quarterbacks in the country next season. Figured his name out yet? It's Taylorsville's outstanding quarterback Jason Campbell. I bet most of you didn't know he is also a very good basketball player.

06/02/99 - Former Lady Bulldog LaCharlotte Smith will be playing for the WNBA two-time world champions Houston Comets this coming season. Mississippi State graduate and former Ole Miss ladies' basketball coach Van Chancellor is the head coach of Houston.
