04/21/02 - Through Day 1 of the NFL draft, one Bulldog football player has been selected. Dorsett Davis was selected as the 31st pick in the 3rd round by the Denver Broncos.

04/04/02 - MSU football spring practice update.

Prior to the Saturday spring scrimmage, MSU went through their final spring practice Thursday. A brief 13-period practice was on the agenda yesterday.

While the offense ran various plays, the defense was on the practice field next to them running conditioning drills. Although it probably doesn't mean much, there were several interesting depth chart changes for yesterday's practice.

First team defense:

04/02/02 - MSU football spring practice update.

Wham, pow, bam! Have you opened an internet Superman comic book by mistake instead of the football skuttle-butt section of Gene's Page? No, what those words represent is the MSU defense crashing into a ball carrier during yesterday's practice. After DOG safety Gabe Wallace crashed head-on into the ball carrier with no success, four other defensive players came swarming in for the kill only to go to the ground trying to tackle the Superman known as Donald Lee. After Lee caught a pass out in the flat, Wallace laid a loud sounding hit on him. While everybody on the practice field expected him to crumple to the ground, Lee, instead, was knocked backwards a step or two but stayed on his feet while Wallace went to the ground. Immediately, four players from the swarming MSU defense crashed into Lee all at the same time. Lee went down but sprang up almost immediately and ran back to the huddle while the four defensive players slowly got to their feet. Lee may not be Superman but it sure takes a Superman effort to tackle him.

Batman meets Superman:

On the next play, 5-7 DOG safety Bryan Shumaker, learning from what he had just seen, watched as Donald Lee once again received a pass from the quarterback. He immediately went straight for Lee and hit him low. To the amazement of all looking, Lee went to the ground. Shumaker's fellow defensive teammates immediately ran to his side and congratulated him for making such a great tackle.
