06/30/99 - Thanks to Alliance Sports Correspondent Rob Haralson for this update on several MSU walkons and a USM walkon. For complete details of this walkon update, visit Rob's recruiting pay site at http://www.alliancesports.com/msu/
Tommy Ferrill (6-4, 235-lbs., 4.7) TE
The Hattiesburg High MS All-Star tight end says he is a hard-nosed player and has always wanted to be a Bulldog. "It is a good program and really going up,' he commented. He is already fully qualified with a 2.9 GPA and a 22 on the ACT.
Ben Justice (6-2, 260-lbs.) OL
Justice, who squats 550-lbs. and bench presses 320-lbs. says he will go to Mississippi State. The MS All-Star lineman from Madison Central says he is being considered for center and especially long snapper. He chose MSU over Ole Miss even though his sister was a Rebel. "I wanted to play for an SEC
school and Mississippi State gave me the opportunity," he commented.
Bradlon Huff (6-2, 240-lbs., 4.6) FB
This MS All-Star fullback from Franklin County High (MS) plans to attend Co-Lin Community College. "I plan to go there for a year and a half. Then I plan to go to Mississippi State," he said.
Steve Griffin (5-10, 181-lbs., 4.6) RB
The Amory High standout has decided to spend his college years at Southern Miss. "I thought it was the best place for me to get an education, so I thought I would just walk on there," he stated.
06/30/99 - Check out my MSU Booster Club and Alumni Events section for the event nearest you. There are events taking place three to four days a week. Don't miss the excitement of being with hundreds of other Bulldog fans as our coaches talk about their upcoming seasons.
06/29/99 - Here are three senior-to-be players MSU may be looking at:
06/28/99 - Click here to read an excellent article by The Clarion-Ledger's sports writer Sekou Smith. The article is an update on the Internet and sports websites like mine. Excellent, excellent reading and a great job by Sekou.
If you would like to thank Sekou personally, he can be reached by email at ssmith@jackson.gannett.com
06/27/99 - The Clarion-Ledger is supposed to have an article in today's paper which is, basically, an update of the sports article they had about the internet two years ago. That article primarily dealt with college websites like mine. If you get a chance, buy a C-L. MSU beat writer Sekou Smith is one of the primary writers, so you know it will be well-written and informative.
06/27/99 - The following MSU Alumni Chapters and MSU Booster Clubs will will have summer MSU events. Check my MSU Events page for complete details. If you know of other events, please email them, with complete details, to me at swindoll@genespage.com:
06/27/99 - Look for George County HS athlete Trey Fryfogle to camp at MSU in July. Trey has already camped at Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss this summer.
06/26/99 - I have heard a rumor that I haven't been able to confirm as of yet. The word is Amory HS running back/defensive back Steve Griffin will either walk-on at State this coming fall or sign with ICC. It was rumored last recruiting season that Steve would sign with Memphis but that never happened. If anyone has the inside info on Steve, please email it to me. I'm sure we would all like to know what is fact and what is rumor.
By the way, do you realize MSU will have at least four Amory High Schoolers on its squad this coming season: RB Chris Rainey, Flanker Dorian Black, Nose Guard Darius Brown and walk-on KS David Mooneyham? Nice to see that MSU is finally making in-roads into Amory.
I also received additional info about Amory HS junior running back Clifton Moore. According to my source, Clifton didn't get a lot of carries last season but showed that he will be a good one when he did carry the ball. In one game that my source saw, it appeared Clifton broke at least 8 tackles before he was finally brought down.
06/25/99 - Goodness gracious, say a little about a youngster and the sources come out of the woodwork. No complaints here, folks; no complaints at all. In fact, I wish more of you would provide me with info about the youngsters in your area. OK, on to the info. George County HS star football player Trey Fryfogle appears to be a popular young football player with the SEC schools, since he has been contacted by Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss (they have offered). According to my source, State has not shown much interest as of this date. However, the word is he has strong family ties to MSU.
06/25/99 - Long Beach HS quarterback Micky D'Angelo, a player MSU is showing interest in, was offered by Ole Miss at their camp last weekend. And the word is Auburn has also offered.
Folks, based on the info I am receiving, the talent in Mississippi this year must really be good. Check out the next paragraph for even more Mississippi talent.
06/25/99 - According to a source of mine, Amory (MS) HS has several football players who have the potential to be D-I prospects the next couple of years: Daniel Booth (Sr, DL, 6-4, 250, word is he was offered by Ole Miss at their camp), Deshaun Fields (Sr, RB, 5-8, 160, 4.3 forty (FSU camp last year), it is rumored Ole Miss may have offered at their camp), Clifton Moore (Jr, RB, 6-1, 220, 4.5, may be better than Fields), Emanual Rudd (Sr, DB, 5-11, 180, transfer from another school, watch this player), Larry Clark (Jr, DT, 6-2, 250, Penn State is interested according to my source). These are just a few of the many talented players at Amory HS.
06/25/99 - Advertisement: If you live in the Pascagoula area and are looking for someone to help manage your money, Jon Reynolds is the man for you. Jon can be reached at email address dog66@ametro.net. To learn more about the company Jon works for, go to A.G. Edwards' website.
06/24/99 - The word is the following players had a good camp this past weekend at Ole Miss' camp: Long Beach HS QB Micky D'Angelo (will camp at MSU in July along with his brother Robby), Tupelo HS RB George Purnell (Timed at 4.5 in the forty), Madison Central HS OL Doug Buckles, South Panola HS QB/ATH Chris Young, George County HS WR Trey Fryfogle (I was told Ole Miss may have offered. Timed at 4.5 in the forty), Ackerman HS ATH Bryan Shumaker, Olive Branch HS OL James Campbell and Amory HS RB Deshaun Fields. I expect most, if not all, of these players to be recruited by MSU this coming season.
By the way, according to one of my sources, Trey Fryfogle is a player who hasn't gotten a lot of publicity but who, nevertheless, is a player to be watched this coming season. He is 6-2, 180-lbs, with 4.52 speed, and has great hands. He has not only camped at Ole Miss this summer, but has also attended the Auburn and Alabama camps. Sure hope MSU is looking at this guy.

Ask for Dr. Craig, who specializes in contact lens, cataracts, dry eye therapy and laser surgery consultation. If you would like to know more about Optical 2000, visit their website at http://www.optical2k.com/.
06/23/99 - The word from those who have talked to him is MSU signee Dontae Walker talks about bringing not only an SEC Championship to MSU, but a National Championship as well. You know, some folks have said Dontae is a very, very confident young man. Some even say to the point of being cocky. I agree with a source of mine: I hope his self-confidence (cocky if you prefer) not only stays as is but also spreads to the other players.
P.S. One of my sources said Dontae is very personable and seems very appreciative of the warm reception MSU fans are giving him.
06/23/99 - Former MSU football player Kevin Henry is having a football camp in Memphis this weekend at Whitehaven High School. Several NFL stars will be in attendance, including Kordell Stewart and Redell (spelling?) Anthony. One of you heard this ad on Sports 56 a couple of times yesterday. My source isn't exactly sure, but he believes the price is in the $60 range. If anyone else has additional info, please email it to me for posting.

06/22/99 - This report comes from one of you who was at the AL/MS All-Star Classic game Saturday night:
Dontae Walker - better than advertised.....Alabama coaches said he's one of the best they've ever seen...ever.
Bobby Garner - QB headed to USM will be a good one.
Terrell Grindle - Smaller than expected but lots of potential. Looked a lot like Kevin Prentiss wearing number 12 which he'll wear at MSU.
Walk-on David Mooneyham - showed good leg place kicking and hit a couple of nice punts.
Justin Jenkins - had tough game as he's not played a lot of defense, particularly as a rover where he was played...may have more potential as offensive wide receiver.
Bradlon Huff is a definite player....quoted in Mobile paper as saying he's headed to MSU.....he's a good 6'4" with plenty of muscle.....may be headed to Co-Linn.
Jason Myers - not really impressive and didn't seem to be as big as listed, but then he was playing next to big Tommy Kelly who was the best defensive player on the field.
Big Derrick Thompson - (aka the little twin) looked good as defensive lineman but could have great future as offensive tackle.
Big Donald Tucker - also looked big and physical....his brother Bill will be a senior at Tupelo this fall and is quite a basketball player.
Tommy Ferrill, who plans to walk-on at MSU, was plenty big and is a great athlete as evidenced by the fact he played first base on Hattiesburg's runner-up baseball team.
Casey Gilbert - who got away to Alabama was unimpressive as DL.....expect ALA to move him to offense.
Alabama all-star Brandon Johnson - An Auburn signee, was badly hurt and will be out 4-6 months.....he looked great before going down.
Auburn signee running back Michael Owens looked good but he' s no Dontae Walker by a long shot but by default will probably log a lot of playing time this fall.
Alabama running back and Ole Mississippi (as he was listed in game program) signee Robert Williams was impressive.
Auburn signee WR DeAndre Green (remember that name), who MSU finished number 2 on, will be a great one.
Also Auburn signee TE Robert Johnson looked all-world at 6'6 and 280.
06/22/99 - As of yesterday, out of MSU's 24 spring signees (17 HS, 7 JUCO), the following have been academically approved to enter MSU. Four high schoolers are not expected to qualify. All seven juco players are expected to graduate. That leaves seven players yet to be officially accounted for. As more are approved, I will add them to this list.
06/22/99 - According to someone who talked to Dontae Walker yesterday, Dontae said he was heading to Starkville to prepare for the upcoming season. My source said, despite what you may have read about Dontae, he is really a very nice guy. Although Dontae was excited about his all-star game performance, my source said he was humble about it.
P.S. There has been talk about Dontae's work ethic or lack of it if you will. I don't know the youngster but I fully expect no matter what his work ethic history is, once he starts working out with current MSU players, his work ethic will get in line with theirs. Trust me on this, I have been told about another incoming freshman who learned very quickly what is expected of newcomers. He learned that at MSU you are expected to be on time and to work hard. There are many reasons MSU played in the SEC Championship last season and two of the most important are being punctual and working hard.
06/22/99 - Advertisement: If you are looking to buy a vehicle, Mike Colbert, of Colbert Auto World, is the guy you need to contact. Considering Colbert Auto World has been providing MSU with vehicles since 1971, you sure can't go wrong. Check out their website by clicking here.
06/21/99 - One future MSU player I failed to mention in my AL/MS All-Star Classic analysis yesterday was Hattiesburg's Tommy Ferrill (TE, 6-4, 245). During the game, Tommy caught two passes for 30 yards. Both times he showed good hands and speed.
06/21/99 - According to Kevin Henderson, MSU is recruiting Cullman (AL) HS OL/DE Wesley Britt. Wesley, who is 6-8, 285-lbs, is also being recruited by Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn (the leader). The reason MSU is in the mix is because Wesley wants to major in engineering. He's a longshot at this point.
06/21/99 - There was a post on my message board early last week about Dontae Walker retaking his ACT test a week ago. This made me a little curious so I asked a reliable MSU football source of mine why Dontae retook his ACT test and he told me Dontae HAS made a qualifying ACT score but just wanted to take the test again to see if he could improve his score.

Click here to go to Mountain Air Products website and read about their purifiers. Mary Ann and I purchased one and are very pleased with it.
06/20/99 - My first comment is please discontinue the summer all-star football games. There is just too much of a risk for injury.
Last night, Dontae Walker (30 carries and 159 yards. Both All-Star Classic records.) proved to me, as well as the FOX/SportsSouth announcers, he has all the tools to be a great college running back. He showed great speed, acceleration, vision, outstanding balance, as well as good stamina and power. Dontae wasn't the only MSU signee or walk-on who proved their worth last night. Other than a couple of drops late in the game (needs to work on his concentration), wide receiver Terrell Grindle (Hattiesburg HS) showed that he has the chance to be an outstanding player in college. He showed great hands (up until the drops), great speed and quickness. Walk-on David Mooneyham (Amory HS) showed a good leg kicking off and showed good accuracy kicking a field goal and extra points. Offensive lineman Donald Tucker appeared to have a good game against his defensive opponent. Possible walk-on Bradlon Huff showed he already has the beginnings of the blocking skills MSU fullbacks are noted for. Justin Jenkins made a couple of good plays in the game at his safety position.
BTW, the Mississippi team lost to Alabama 28-24. Too bad most of the MSU signees were on the offense. Just kidding. IMO, without the two fumbles (neither by Dontae), Mississippi wins the game.
06/20/99 - Did you know of the 20 sports the SEC sponsored this season, they finished in the top 4 in the country in 17 and 2nd in 13? How's that for domination?
06/19/99 - Ed Jones Update: Ed, an MSU graduate and former graduate assistant coach at MSU, has been hired at Pelahatchie HS as an assistant football coach.
Here is a quote from Ed: "I will always be indebted to Coach Sherrill and the entire staff especially Coach Stump for all they have done. All the fans see is their work with the players, but they also help and teach the little people involved with the program how to be professionals in their particular careers and that is what really makes the coaches at MSU the best in the country."
06/19/99 - A Bulldog fan had the chance to talk to several of the Bulldog signees at the All-Star game lunch/autograph session yesterday. Here are his comments.
"They all seemed excited to be Bulldogs and were very polite. Donald Tucker was impressive in size and personality. Dontae Walker is not shy and it was easy to have a conversation with him. Derrick Thompson was a bit more quiet but when I asked him if he was looking forward to playing for Coach Dunn, he lit up. Corey Miley was not happy with his arm in a sling. Terrell Grindle and Justin Jenkins seem to have good attitudes and Terrell especially was very easy going. They were all eager to sign my son's program and of course I enjoyed it more than he did. Of the non-dogs I spoke with, Hunter Higdon was a class act. The all-star program shows Bradlon Huff as heading to State."
06/19/99 - MSU signee Kevin Fant's best friend, Nick D'Angelo of Moss Point, is walking-on this fall, according to a source of mine.
06/18/99 - MSU and Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer Ode Burrell is an honorary captain for the Mississippi HS all-star squad this weekend. He will be speaking tonight at the banquet being held for the players.
06/18/99 - The Mobile Register had a Dontae Walker article on it's website a couple of days ago. Here is the link: http://www.al.com/sports/mobile/Jun1999/15-a273368a.html.
0618/99 - St. Aloysius has a youngster you will be hearing a lot about this coming season. Senior-to-be Dorian Williams, a 5-9, 160-lb RB/WR/DB, won the 1999 Class 1A 100-meter dash with a time of 11.17 seconds. This past season he garnered such honors as 1998 All-County and All-Division. He was also selected as St. Al's top defensive back in 1997 and 1998.
This past season he had one game that he rushed for 163 yards, scored 2 touchdowns and intercepted a pass. In another game he intercepted a pass, had 89 yards in kick returns and caught a key 8-yard pass to set up a crucial touchdown.
At this point I'm not really sure if MSU is recruiting him but with his numbers you have to figure there may be some interest.
06/18/99 - Advertisement: If you are looking for equipment to work in the garden or on the farm, look no farther than Monroe-Tufline, a Mississippi owned and operated company located in Columbus, MS.
06/17/99 Long Beach HS has an outstanding quarterback by the name of Micky D'Angelo who is one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Mississippi. According to a source of mine, Micky, who is 6-4, 225, is an intelligent youngster with a really strong arm. One of the things that sets him apart from other quarterbacks in the state is how big and physical he is. Although he is a physical player, he also moves very well. The word is Micky had a very successful camp at Tennessee recently. He has also attended the Alabama camp and is going to be at the MSU camp in July. Micky has already earned several preseason honors, including Alliance Sports All-South Team and is an CNN/SI All-American nominee. My sources tell me MSU is very interested in Micky.
BTW, Micky is not the only talented football player in the D'Angelo family. His dad, Joey D'Angelo, the head football coach at Long Beach HS, played football for Southern Miss. His little brother, Robby D'Angelo (6-2, 240), is an up and coming sophomore offensive lineman who, according to a source of mine, has a chance to be one of the best in the state by his senior year. Robby also attended the Tennessee camp and the word is had a very good camp.
06/17/99 - Eric Horne, 6-0, 197, 4.55, DB, SR, Mize HS, attended the Auburn camp this past weekend and had a great camp. According to my source, the Auburn coaches were really impressed with him. Eric, who attended the MSU camp a couple of weekends ago, really likes Mississippi State and Auburn at this point.
06/16/99 - I was told by a source from Mobile, Alabama that MSU signee Corey Miley broke his collarbone while practicing for this weekend's 12th Annual Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Football Classic . As I receive additional details, I will post them on my page.
06/16/99 - MSU tight end signee Donald Lee is working on MSU's campus this summer and working out to prepare himself for the upcoming season. Donald, who is 6-4, has increased his weight from 218 to 232. According to my source, who is a friend of Donald's, Donald is really looking forward to the upcoming season and is really enjoying himself as he begins to experience what it is like to be on the MSU campus.
06/16/99 - Yesterday, there was a rumor on one of the other message boards which stated that Coach Sherrill would announce his resignation this coming Friday. I telephoned Coach Sherrill yesterday afternoon and asked him if he knew about this rumor. His reaction was to laugh about it, then tell me he does not respond to 3rd-party rumors. However, he did say he would relish the opportunity to talk to the person who started this rumor.
Bulldog fans, if you want to know the facts, continue to visit Gene's Page. I will always do my best to keep you informed.
06/16/99 - The Lauderdale County Alumni Association Chapter of MSU needs your help. All MSU alumni in the Lauderdale county area who are or want to become members of the local chapter need to mail their dues to the MSU Alumni Association; 1620 Highway 39 North; Meridian, MS. 39301. For those of you who don't know how much the dues are or have questions about the local chapter, please email the president of the chapter at cpas@mississippi.net.
06/14/99 - According to Rob Haralson of Alliance Sports, LSU commitment Skylor Magee (Poplarville (MS) HS, LB, 6-2, 230, 4.7) says he is still firmly committed to LSU, even after his good friend Walter Young signed a baseball-only contract with Pittsburgh. However, according to Magee, "I'm not sure whether or not I will look anywhere else, but the only other one I've considered is Mississippi State. My commitment is firm, but Mississippi State is still a possibility, but not a strong possibility." Skylor will attend the MSU 7 on 7 camp on July 15th and 16th.
Rob also emailed me an article he did on Clinton HS LB J.J. Grant. J.J, who is 6-4, 225, with 4.57 speed in the forty, is considering Alabama, Mississippi State, Washington and North Carolina. Alabama is his favorite at the moment. J.J grew up as an army child so playing close to home is not important to him.
If you haven't checked out Rob's Alliance Sports recruiting site, click here and check it out.

06/13/99 - How would you like to be a Bulldog fan and not have any other Bulldog fans to celebrate MSU victories with? Well, fellow Bulldog fans, Bill Phillips, who lives in Augusta, Georgia is in that situation. If you live in the Central Savannah River Area, in greater metropolitan Augusta, GA., contact fellow Bulldog fan Bill via email at bphillips@thermalceramics.com and arrange to share those football victories during the 1999 season with another Bulldog fan.
06/13/99 - For all of you Memphis Bulldogs, your annual MSU Alumni Summer Party is less than a month away. Get those cowbells a ringing and your Bulldog enthusiasm ready and GO TO YOUR PARTY. Who else would you rather spend a summer party with than with a bunch of Bulldog fans?
06/13/99 - This past Thursday, approximately 20 MSU football players were seen at the intramural football fields working out. One of them was MSU quarterback Wayne Madkin who was throwing route patterns to several skilled position players.
06/13/99 - A source of mine had the opportunity to talk to MSU quarterback signee Kevin Fant yesterday. Kevin told him his knee will be fine by the time fall practice starts and he is going to do his best to win the starting job. If he doesn't, he will be willing to red-shirt his freshman year. My source said Kevin is a class act and will represent MSU very well.
06/13/99 - Advertisement: If you live in the Jackson, MS. area and you are looking for someone to manage your investments, give fellow Bulldog fan Bob Graves, of Merrill Lynch, a call at 601-968-9542 or better yet, go by his office at 111 East Capitol Street, Suite 101.
06/12/99 - What kind of potential does MSU juco signee Dorsett Davis have? According to a well-informed source of mine, the scouts are already drooling about his potential.
The plans are, at this time, to red-shirt quarterback signee Kevin Fant.
06/12/99 - Here's the latest update on future MSU players who will be playing in the 12th Annual Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Football Classic a week from today. There are now nine of them.
06/11/99 - Former MSU football player Earnie Barnes was shot to death in Atlanta, Ga., a couple of days ago. Before you ask, drugs were not involved. Earnie was not that type person. Earnie was like so many of us, he was doing his best to make a living at a regular job and live his life the best way he could. As I learn more, I will post it on my page.
06/11/99 - According to the Madison County Journal, former Madison Central HS offensive lineman Ben Justice (6-3, 275) will be walking on at State this coming season. BTW, that now puts 8 future Bulldogs in the 12th Annual Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Football Classic, which will be played June 19th in Mobile, Ala.
You can watch the football game on Fox/SportsSouth beginning at 7:30 p.m that Saturday. If you own a big satellite dish, you can find the game at W1-9.
06/10/99 - The following Bulldog signees or walkons (state of Mississippi only) will play in the June 19th, 7:15 p.m, 12th Annual Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Football Classic. MSU signee Kevin Fant was very badly wanted by the Mississippi coaches but due to a early season knee injury, Kevin decided to rehab the knee instead of playing in the game. Jackson State will have 4 players and Southern Miss and Ole Miss 2 each playing in the classic. I did not count in as major college signees players that will be attending juco instead of a four-year school.
Here's hoping that a Bulldog signee dominates the all-star game as MSU signee Justin Griffith did last year.
06/10/99 - As of yesterday, out of MSU's 24 spring signees (17 HS, 7 JUCO), the following have been academically approved to enter MSU. Four high schoolers are not expected to qualify. All seven juco players are expected to graduate. That leaves eight players still to be accounted for. As more are approved, I will add them to this list.
06/10/99 - I need some info. Do any of you know of a senior-to-be football player by the name of Jadice Moore from Port Gibson, MS? I have heard he is a very good player and I would like to know more about him.
06/10/99 - Advertisement: TradeWind Industries manufactures high quality, hand crafted acrylic whirlpool baths, acrylic drop-in sinks and lavatories, acrylic shower bases and the innovative RainDancer Electronic Shower System. Give them a look-see by checking out their website at http://www.icglink.com/tradewind.
06/09/99 - As of yesterday, nothing has changed as far as the academics of our signees. My sources continue to feel very confident that four signees will not meet freshmen academic eligibility standards. The four are Keshan Fudge, Johnny Rutherford, Kamau Jackson and Jason Myers. According to my sources, all other signees have made at least the required qualifying ACT score of 17 and appear to be OK in regard to their core GPA.
I have also been told by a reliable source that Madison, Ohio tight end Aaron Lumpkin will be in an MSU Bulldog uniform this upcoming football season. In case you have forgotten who Aaron is, here is a little info on him. According to SuperPrep's All-American Issue, Aaron, a 6-4, 245-lb TE from Madison, OH., was the 83rd best player (3rd best TE) in the Midwest area (covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin) last football season.
06/09/99 - The rumor is MSU will recruit these four players (3 WRs and 1 combo WR/DB) during the upcoming season.
06/09/99 - Advertisement: If you live in the Jackson, MS. area and you need formal wear for a wedding or any other formal event, click here to visit Doug Douglass' Tuxes, Too website. Doug is looking forward to fulfilling all of your formal wear needs.
06/08/99 - According to a source of mine, a couple of Starkville HS senior football players are very interested in MSU. Thurman Ward, a 6-1, 180-lb, QB/DB with 4.5 speed, and Eric Tucker, a 6-3, 195-lb, WR/DB, with 4.6 speed, have both expressed a fondness for MSU. BTW, Eric is Jerry Rice's nephew. Both youngsters will have no problem qualifying.
06/08/99 - I have received emails from a couple of MSU fans who would like to meet other MSU fans in the Nashville and Kansas City areas. The Nashville Bulldog fan is eager to get involved with the Bulldog Club Chapter in the Nashville area. Email me if you are interested in contacting either of these Bulldog fans.

06/07/99 - As promised, here is more MSU football camp info.
Some of the schools that had players in attendance were as follows:
Now for some of the better prospects that I saw. Remember, I had trouble figuring out who was whom, so I'm sure I have left out a lot of names of great players.
There were many, many more great looking athletes at the camp but these were the only ones I was able to get info on.
06/07/99 - I would like to thank Coach Sherrill for showing me one of the new lockers. The retail price of these lockers usually is $2,200 each, but Bobby Castle, an avid Bulldog fan and owner of Bobby Castle Construction Company, of Hutto, Texas, is building the 200 lockers at his cost. These lockers will be financed by the Cotton Bowl money and your donations. If you are interested in joining the "Team Locker" program, click here to find an order form. A $900 donation entitles you to permanently have your name placed on the locker.
Here are pictures of the locker if you are interested in seeing what they look like:

MSU, with the Cotton Bowl money, is adding a new locker room area in the Leo Seal M-Club Building for our football players and is also adding new lockers in the locker room area of the Shira Field House. Other things being added in the Leo Seal Building are a recruiting lounge where the visitors locker room used to be. The previous Leo Seal MSU locker room will now be the locker room for the visitors, a visitor's coaches room and a meeting room for the visitors. Plus, there will be a new media room.
06/06/99 - Here is some info from yesterday's MSU football camp.
MSU had approximately 550 to 650 campers in this weekend. I will try and get the final numbers later this week. There were players or teams from at least eight states, including Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Missouri, Texas, Tennessee and Georgia. Each team, coached by either their own football coaches or other outstanding high school coaches, will have played other teams to the tune of between 13 to 16 thirty minute games once the championship game is finished. Not only did playing so many games give the coaches a chance to get a lot of reps in with their players, but they also got the chance to see how their teams competed against teams from other states and, in some cases, against higher classification teams. Just watching and listening to the players playing in the games and on the sidelines, made you well aware that they were having the time of their lives. There was one game I was watching where two Louisiana teams, De Le Salle and Hahnville, were obviously into it big-time. I guess they were either rivals or since they were both from Louisiana there was a competition thing going on. Ultimately, the game ended in a tie but they went over to another field and completed the game in overtime with De Le Salle winning the game. You would have thought they had won a state championship when the wide out caught the touchdown. There were other games where the winning team's players acted like they had just won the biggest game of their lives. It was obvious there was a lot of fun and competition going on yesterday.
And what can I say about the food at MSU? Perry Cafeteria, MSU's on-campus cafeteria, provided all the campers and their coaches with some of the best food you can find anywhere. All you had to see were the number of folks who went back for seconds to know this. One other thing that impressed me was how fast the employees of Perry Cafeteria served 600+ campers and coaches. A tremendous amount of appreciation is extended to each one of them for a job well done.
One additional thing I would like to say is it was truly amazing to watch how organized MSU's camp was. Even with about 600 campers, everything seemed to run very smoothly. The kids and their coaches came to play and coach and that is what they got to do.
Tomorrow, I will have names of some of the teams that were at the camp and names of some of the best players that I personally observed. I want to say up front, it was difficult to figure out who many of the players were, since they did not have name tags, but I did find out about a lot of the players by watching and listening to what folks were saying as I walked around.

Larry Phipps goes into great, great detail about each SEC team. What I provided above is just a small fraction of what he provides in his magazine. If you are interested in his magazine and you have not found it in a bookstore (it should be in Barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks and B. Dalton book stores) in you local area, give Larry a call at (803) 568-4643 or email him at lphipps@axs2k.net and I'm sure he would be glad to take your order.

06/03/99 - I know there have been rumors posted on other boards that MSU quarterback Brandon Butler may be transferring to another school. Just thought you guys would like to know he is presently working in Starkville and will be attending State the second semester. According to my source, there's nothing to the rumors. Brandon is very happy at State and is looking forward to next season.
06/03/99 - According to a Magee, MS. source of mine, the Simpson County Chapter of the Bulldog Club gave about $9,500 to the Bulldog Club during the meeting in Magee, MS. Sixteen new Bulldog Club members were signed and fourteen season tickets were sold.
The Simpson County Bulldog Club Chapter encourages all the other Bulldog Club and MSU Alumni Chapters out there to step up and signed new Bulldog Club members and purchase football season tickets. They are doing their part and hope you will to. Here is a Bulldog Club application form
06/02/99 - A couple of Ackerman (MS) HS players who have expressed an interest in MSU are senior-to-be Brian Shumaker, a probable Dandy Dozen selection, and junior-to-be Glenn Mason, a 6-3, 250-lb. lineman.
